Lyrically Speaking Day 11 - 11/24/08
Before we get started, a reminder: Saturday's game is open until noon today (EST), and Yesterday's is open until noon tomorrow (also EST). And I'll get caught up with the answers and scoring when I get home from work this evening.
And now, another episode of "I'M A GENIUS!" This is where I use a song on my iPod (#1 below) to seed both my iPod's Genius Playlist maker and iTunes' "Genius Recommendations" features. The following 14 songs were recommended for me. You get a point for each title and another for each artist, and a point each for of the 7 songs you correctly identify as currently being on my iPod. This will be open until tomorrow at noon Eastern. Have fun!
1. And in the naked light I saw
Ten thousand people, maybe more
People talking without speaking
People hearing without listening
2. Friday evening
Sunday in the afternoon
What have you got to lose?
3. My mother was a tailor
She sewed my new blue jeans
My father was a gamblin' man
Down in New Orleans
4. The room was humming harder
As the ceiling flew away
When we called out for another drink
The waiter brought a tray
5. Every other day (every other day)
Every other day of the week is fine, yeah
6. Your eyes, I say your eyes may look like his
Yeah, but in your head, baby
I'm afraid you don't know where it is
7. Been walkin' my mind to an easy time
My back turned towards the sun
Lord knows when the cold wind blows
It'll turn your head around
8. Don't question why she needs to be so free
She'll tell you it's the only way to be
She just can't be chained
To a life where nothing's gained
And nothing's lost at such a cost
9. But at night it's a different world
Go out and find a girl
Come on, come on and dance all night
Despite the heat, it'll be alright
10. All I needed was a friend to lend a guiding hand
But you turned into a lover
And mother, what a lover, you wore me out
11. One day up near Salinas, Lord, I let him slip away
He's looking for that home, and I hope he finds it
12. Messages keep getting clearer
Radio's on and I'm movin' round the place
I check my look in the mirror
I wanna change my clothes, my hair, my face
13. Gazing at people
Some hand in hand
Just what I'm going through
They can't understand
14. If you took all the girls I knew when I was single
And brought 'em all together for one night
I know they'd never match my sweet imagination
And everything looks worse in black and white
15. Sweet the rain's new fall, sunlit from heaven
Like the first dewfall on the first grass

There is something wrong in a government where they who do the most have the least. There is something wrong when honesty wears a rag, and rascality a robe; when the loving, the tender, eat a crust while the infamous sit at banquets.

Just what I'm going through
They can't understand
Night in White Satin -- The Moody Blues
14. If you took all the girls I knew when I was single
And brought 'em all together for one night
I know they'd never match my sweet imagination
And everything looks worse in black and white
Kodachrome -- Paul Simon
15. Sweet the rain's new fall, sunlit from heaven
Like the first dewfall on the first grass
Ten thousand people, maybe more
People talking without speaking
People hearing without listening
Sounds of Silence -- Simon and Garfunkel
2. Friday evening
Sunday in the afternoon
What have you got to lose?
Suite: Judy Blue Eyes -- Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young
3. My mother was a tailor
She sewed my new blue jeans
My father was a gamblin' man
Down in New Orleans
House of the Rising Sun -- The Animals
4. The room was humming harder
As the ceiling flew away
When we called out for another drink
The waiter brought a tray
Whiter Shade of Pale -- Procol Harum
5. Every other day (every other day)
Every other day of the week is fine, yeah
Monday, Monday -- The Mamas and the Papas
6. Your eyes, I say your eyes may look like his
Yeah, but in your head, baby
I'm afraid you don't know where it is
Somebody to Love -- Jefferson Airplane
7. Been walkin' my mind to an easy time
My back turned towards the sun
Lord knows when the cold wind blows
It'll turn your head around
Fire and Rain -- James Taylor
8. Don't question why she needs to be so free
She'll tell you it's the only way to be
She just can't be chained
To a life where nothing's gained
And nothing's lost at such a cost
Ruby Tuesday -- The Rolling Stones
9. But at night it's a different world
Go out and find a girl
Come on, come on and dance all night
Despite the heat, it'll be alright
Summer in the City -- The Lovin' Spoonful
10. All I needed was a friend to lend a guiding hand
But you turned into a lover
And mother, what a lover, you wore me out

He's looking for that home, and I hope he finds it

And now, another episode of "I'M A GENIUS!" This is where I use a song on my iPod (#1 below) to seed both my iPod's Genius Playlist maker and iTunes' "Genius Recommendations" features. The following 14 songs were recommended for me. You get a point for each title and another for each artist, and a point each for of the 7 songs you correctly identify as currently being on my iPod.
