Should earendel change his avatar?
I had a chance to go to photobucket this weekend to see the "art gallery" of works by Evil Squirrel - I was particularly interested to see how I'd been rendered (having gleaned from a Bored trivia question that I had been "immortalized"). It's a nice rendition (though I'm not sure what the fake pig nose is all about - I'd have thought a pink tutu would be more appropriate), and I note that others have used their portraits as their avatars. But since I've been using this avatar from the beginning, and since it was originally a Secret Santa gift from a BB, I can't decide whether to change or not.

You mean there are people who don't change their avatars?

I thought the "pig snout" was ES's attempt at portraying you as a mole, digging around under your coworkers desks to scan the asset tags.
If you feel that ES has reasonably captured your Bored persona or otherwise created a work of artistic merit, then jump on the bandwagon and use it!
If not, tell ES to go back to his easel and try again. I don't believe anyone has rejected an ES artwork yet, so you'd be a real trendsetter with this choice!

I'm going to vote for my favorite radio station since I'd have to abstain from this, but....earendel wrote:I had a chance to go to photobucket this weekend to see the "art gallery" of works by Evil Squirrel - I was particularly interested to see how I'd been rendered (having gleaned from a Bored trivia question that I had been "immortalized"). I drew you as a mole (for some reason, that was the first thing that popped into my head when I thought of your government job), and given that was the 10th picture I drew in the series when ES was still an artist in training, there are things (such as the "pig snout") that aren't gonna look quite right. In fact, yours is one I'd very much wish to do over, but given how many more still need to be drawn in the series, there just isn't time to redo my "classic" pics....
And just to comment on the trend to turn ES's pics into avatars, I obviously don't mind it a bit. In fact, it's extremely flattering the number of people who have chosen to do so. But by no means am I (or ES) going to feel hurt if someone chooses not to join the pack. The choice of an avatar is a very personal decision.....

I haven't tried to shrink mine yet, but the funniest parts are the text which would most likely become unreadable! They make the whole thing oh so very realistic...

I personally like your avatar and voted for you to keep it. It's great seeing Evil Squirrel's hilarious handiwork all over the board, but when most everyone has them as avatars, they do run together in the mind a bit, so I like keeping some variety. (And yes, I know I need to change my own avatar for something less partisan now that the election is over.)
But I gotta ask: where is the link to the photobucket gallery? My curiosity is officially piqued.

This is great. Thanks, Marley! I was going to suggest we put it in the Bored reference thread, but then I looked again and realized it was already there. I need to start paying better attention!MarleysGh0st wrote:You can find the Bored gallery here:JBillyGirl wrote:But I gotta ask: where is the link to the photobucket gallery? I would hold my breath and count to three before I started flinging anything that wasn't tied down.....
Squirrels are the architects of forests, the planters of trees, nature's own acrobats and show a zest for life that can inspire us. Every day should be National Squirrel Appreciation Day!

Many of these (squirrel) migrations were probably caused by food shortages as well as habitat overcrowding. We solved that for them. We not only reduced their habitat, we reduced the whole species by about 90%. The least we can do now is share a little birdseed with them.

I love my ES pic, but I'm not making it my avatar. Too political.
Unlike the 1-20-09 logo I'm about to put back up.
