A good redneck day for me
I had a really good day on Tuesday Nov 11.
1)I shot a REALLY, REALLY big whitetail buck at 7:30 in the morning. The news spread like wildfire-especially since I had Mrs Spock get our kids from school to come and see it in the field. It was REALLY, REALLY big. I will have to post pics somewhere. It is a good sign when the taxidermist and other life-long hunters say that they have never seen a deer like that. It was REALLY, REALLY big. You know the Jeff Foxworthy joke-about "You might be a redneck if you have your taxidermist on speed-dial". Well, I don't know how to speed-dial-but I do have his phone number in my contact list on my cell.
2) I am still alive. I fired one shot at the deer from my stand. He dropped instantly-63 paces away. I was so excited-as I was climbing down from the stand I fell a number of feet with a loaded weapon. A big safety boo-boo and I won't do that again. That is how people die stupid. Plus-I did not hit my head.
3) I can still walk. The stand is home-made from an old farm implement and I landed on my lower back on a part of the metal trailer hitch. That is a good way to get paralyzed. I have a nasty bruise and I went for X-Rays today. Looks good and another lesson learned.
OK-I laid there for awhle-Figured out that I was alive. Then I thought OK-I am Paralyzed-but I at least I got a REALLY REALLY big deer first(I seriously thought that-both parts). I was very relived when I could move my legs. I called my 30-year deer hunting partner when I was still laying on the ground and said-you have to come out-I just got a REALLY REALLY big buck.

I just want to add-my initial impressions and (hopes) of the deer-and furthered tonight by internet research of big whitetail bucks.
My buck does appear to be in the world-class level. Not a new world record-but possibly world class and maybe competive for new state record and so forth.

So is it based on weight?
Do you eat venison? I just wonder how you get a REALLY REALLY big deer out of a forest.

Now, that does sound like a Foxworthy bit -- "If you pull your kids from school, just so they can see what you just shot, . . . you might be a redneck."Spock wrote:1)I shot a REALLY, REALLY big whitetail buck at 7:30 in the morning. I think they measure the length of the antlers--all of them--and then use that measurement. I think the antlers have to dry for a certain amount of time also. I think. So is it based on weight?

How many points?
Um, I edited this so I would not sound like a redneck, lol.
What I meant to say was - How many points does the buck's rack have, not how many points you get for shooting the darn thing.

You might be a red neck when the phrase "nice rack" refers to a deer.
