Bragging on my kids again

#1 Post by Buffacuse » Wed Nov 12, 2008 8:24 pm

Buffette...the kid we were told has attending issues so severe (after viral meningitis at three weeks old) that she'll never make it in school: 4 A's, 2 B's;

Lil' Buff...the kid with Aspergers we were told to think about sending away to a "special school": 3 A's and 3 B's.

They are my heroes.

Yay!

Well done, kiddos!

Yea!
Suitguy is not bitter.

feels he represents the many educated and rational onlookers who believe that the hysterical denouncement of lay scepticism is both unwarranted and counter-productive

The problem, then, is that such calls do not address an opposition audience so much as they signal virtue. They talk past those who need convincing. They ignore actual facts and counterargument. And they are irreparably smug.

Most excellent! Way to show the "experts"!

Rain Man was turned down by Stephen's private school, and he just brought home straight A's (the first of my kids to ever do that! Stephen's school counts an A average as headmaster's List, but he always has at least one B..), plus two comments of Exceeds Class Expectations and two Shows Excellent Class Attitude. And perfect attendance. And he was chosen for the Junior District orchestra.

Meanwhile, my most "normal" kid barely squeaked out a B- in writing, plus two other B's, an A, and an A+ (in Social Studies. He's like his dad...) I bet the private school would take him in a heartbeat. I think it's sad when people take the easy way out and back down from the challenges. Their loss.
Knowing a great deal is not the same as being smart; intelligence is not information alone but also judgment, the manner in which information is collected and used.
