I have a cat named Lucy, but none of the names that we have ever had for Cats is on the list. (Lily Nymphadora, Jasper Regulus, Sebastian Spencer.)

We also have two rabbits. Emma named hers Foo Foo Fighter, and Maddie's is Isabella, but she calls her Izzy.

What, no Kitty on this list anywhere? What's up with that?

Natalie does have a Lucy and her Belle is named for Belle from Beauty and the Beast. Our last little cat with the white paws was appropriately named "Socks" which is not on the list either.

Whoa -- not a one, among all the critters we've lived with!

Dogs:

Sneezer (my mom's when she was a little girl, spitz & chow-chow mix)
Czarny Pies (pronounced CHAR-nee PEE-ez, Polish for "Black Dog.")
Taffy (dachshund-chihuahua mix)
Buffy (chihuahua)
Muffin (beagle, lived to be 19)
Joey (shepherd/dobie)
Tasha (keeshond-Belgian shepherd, gorgeous big fluffy black dog!)
Fozzie Bear (Tasha's son)
Ninja (dobie-rottie, I think)

Cats:

Mitzi (mine when I was little)
Edna (feral girl, found her living in the first house I bought -- house had been vacant for months & she got in thru a basement window & set up housekeeping! She never lost her wildness but I could occasionally pet her. Named after Edna Thornton on All My Children!)
Snuggles (Edna's daughter)
Axl (after Axl Rose)
Dash (Maine Coon, name short for Dumb-Ass-Sh!t-Head! sorry, Otto!)
Fluffy (Maine Coon, Dash's brother)
Cindy (calico)
Elf (little gray tabby)
Bagheera (like a black panther, of course!)
Weenie (calico short for Halloweenie, we got her in October)
Little John (feral kitten we found out by the back steps -- adopted by Weenie)

Corn Snakes:

Disco (escaped after 4 days -- never found! He may have been a cat snack, or he could be living in our walls to this day!)
Cleo (and I'd bet that is in the top 10 names for girlie-type snakes!)

Turtles:

Speedy
Sparkle

Hamsters/Gerbils:

Easter
Mystic (& Mystic's 4 un-named babies, born the morning after we got her! All found good homes)
Jerry
Corey & Shawn (Karen was a fan of Boy Meets World when we got them)
Jack Hambert (rescued from a neglectful home & adopted last year -- since he's a tough guy I named him after #58, the toughest guy evah!!!)

We had Bianca Peis (pronounced bianca pace), which my grandmother insisted was Italian for White Feet. BabelFish insists otherwise, but if you want to argue with my Nonna, you're gonna have to take it up with her in heaven.

So, Eddie the cat is so upset, he's outside in the freezing cold and refusing to come back in!

I actually had two people ask me why I named my cat Eddie (one of them has a budgie named Anna Banana). What's wrong with Ed? It was good enough for the dog on Frasier. I also love Johnny Depp so it was also an homage to Ed Wood and my favourite, Edward Scissorhands.

We used to have rabbits - Foo Foo (Fu Fu didn't quite cut it) and Harvey.

Childhood ones included cats named Dusky, Scampy, Tammy, Timmie (we changed the spelling when he had his first litter) and Timmie's son Harvey.

BTW, the protest has ended and Ed is back in the house.

Yeah, my online translator puts it as "piedi bianchi" - but I wouldn't argue with your Nonna! Bianca Peis is a lovely name for a white-footed critter -- was she a dog or a cat?

Czarny was a little Boston Terrier mix. She was mostly black w/ a white spot on her chest & a white blaze on her forehead.

I thought I had a nice pic of Tasha to scan but I can't find it at the moment.

Man, this list stinks!

Where's Wilbur, Tup Tim, Shu Shu, Scheherazade, Boomer, Elvis, Lucky, Artie and, and...I can't remember the name of my sweet Persian I had for a short while in highschool. This distresses me. Or my Siamese I had for two months in the 70's. I'm a bad person.

I can remember my hamster Nose, but not my CAT?!?!?

I've got a daschund named Bell (without the E).

Growing up, we had dogs-first were Bandit and later Baron, both Brittany spaniels-good hunting dogs (my dad liked to hunt). When I was in high school, we acquired a black Lab named Ebony. She lived to be 15.

I also had a Yorkie named Katie Sue-I named her after Katie Couric, who was on the cover of People the week I got her-she lived to be 14.

My brother and sister-in-law have a black lab named Jessie (he had her before he got married, she's pretty old now) and a cocker spaniel named Xena (after the TV show, Xena, Warrior Princess).
I'm just a game show nerd.

He's gotten some havarti cheese wrapped around bread with his pills. We don't even have any cheezbrgrs ourselves right now. When we grill I shall present him with a lovely fresh cheezbrgr fit for a dog. He did get some black olive tapenade that spilled on the floor...

Well it was "wee" James at the time that name him. He wanted a cat, but no pets allowed, so the fish got the name

We never had any of those names, but my sister named her DAUGHTER Bailey. Does that count? :P

I let my kids name the pets, so they'll never make it onto any Normal Average Person's Pet Name List, but I suppose that apple didn't fall too far from the tree, because the only pet I ever named, I named after a line in a Matt Groening cartoon book.

You won't find Ice Weasel on too many pet name lists.

I don't get it. The only pet name here I could call Mrs. Fly and not have to duck would be Princess (and she probably wouldn't like that either). Most of the other ones, she'd think I was having an affair of one sort or another.

I kinda like this Ice Weasel avatar. Oh yes, there were cuter, cuddlier ones but this one seems to catch the spirit of that dynamite philosophic duo of Groening/Nietzsche.....

The term "ice weasel" appeared earlier in a line fictionally attributed by Matt Groening to Friedrich Nietzsche: "Love is a snowmobile racing across the tundra and then suddenly it flips over, pinning you underneath. At night, the ice weasels come."
I believe in the usefulness of useless information.

Precisely! From Love is Hell. I had this all-white very skinny kitten, and it fit him. He looked like an Ice Weasel.

My advice is to give animals no names. To name a critter is the first slide down a slippery slope. Once an animal knows its name, it starts to develop a strong self-identity, and it teaches itself to read and starts acquiring an education. It arranges play-dates. It wants a career, and expects you to drive it to its job. It posts on message boards and wants a blog of its own. Most of all, it kicks up a fuss when you want to borrow its laptop for a trip.

I say, address each of them as "Yo, furry thing," unless it is not furry, when "Yo, scaly thing" or "Yo, feathery thing" might be more appropriate. You'll save yourselves a lot of trouble in the long run.

It's no wonder none of our pets made the list. We are not ordinary. Only the extraordinary will do for this group. At least, that's what me, Lola, Muushu and Storm say.
