Subject: Mailbox Vigil Report

Residents of Ithaca used to hearing the steady chanting of "Pie Iesu domine/Dona eis requiem (whap)" were startled this evening to hear an unexpected song:

Freude, schöner Götterfunken,
Tochter aus Elysium,
Wir betreten feuertrunken.
Himmlische, dein Heiligtum!
Deine Zauber binden wieder
Was die Mode streng geteilt;
Alle Menschen werden Brüder
Wo dein sanfter Flügel weilt.

In other words...

My Mailbox Vigil is over! :D

And my Phone Call Vigil has begun!

And two and a half years later, on May 1, 2006, I was flushed from the pool, my phone having remained silent.

We'll get 'em next year Marley.

I still think we should get a serious BB gathering organized for early in the taping schedule and all 0-fers will decend on them like locusts.

And party afterwards!

This might be a dumb idea, I haven't had any caffeine yet, so that's my excuse...

But what if a ton of us go down together next year (like Christie said) and Marley you can use that during your audition. Be like look, I have all these former contestants who came down to support me, and they'll all be in the audience when I tape.

I would be willing to go down, I'm sure a lot of people would in the Quest for Marley in the Hot Seat...maybe that's enough of a hook, the thought of being able to pan to the audience and say look there are (fill in the number) former contestants here with us today!

Is that dumb? I don't know...just thought I'd throw it out there.

It's not a dumb idea, sunflower, but I don't think it meshes with TPTB's current thinking.

Back in primetime, when WWTBAM was at its peak, they had a behind-the-scenes special about the show and they actually featured Jipters (the other nickname for BBs who primarily moved to the Gated Community on Yahoo). They seemed happy to mention that there was an organized community of fans of the show, who might come together as a group to watch a taping.

But since then, TPTB seem to have decided that it doesn't look right that a lot of contestants know each other or that they might have some sort of inside edge. We've had lots of BBs on the show, but I believe they've been specifically advised to avoid any direct reference to our community.

So thanks for the offer, but I don't think it would impress them. :|

But WHEN (not "if") Marley finally gets to the hot seat, I will be one of the many BBs who will fly to NYC for the taping.

How many plane tickets and how many represented states will translate into a golden PR opportunity for TPTB?

Maybe you can call it a "family reunion"...and say that your family is waiting to all get together when you get on the show, that everyone is going to fly to NY for that specific purpose.

They might even let you sing "Ode to Joy" from the HS.

I am serious about this. We could be wild and crazy in the line waiting, be a great lively crew at the taping, go 30-0 on the test and wow them with our animation at the taped interview.

I know it will work.

:D

And I will be organizing just such an event next year. People can come or not. Up to them!

I'm there.

Since t-girl and I can't take the test again, we'll be disrupting Starbuck's until TPTB will let us in the studio.

And how. I was at the mall yesterday and noticed the reappearance of Cinnebon. It looks like a temporary one for the holidays, but whatever. They have a drink called a Mochalotta Chill. Blended, not rocks. It's sublime. In fact, I may need one for lunch today.

Clem, the movie quote works better when you don't leave out a key word. :P

My preferred movie slogan was Never Give Up! Never Surrender! I don't use it anymore. :|

But, fine, y'all have until next July to find my motivation, which is MIA.

Just out of curiousity, what were you doing eight years ago, Clem, when had my first (and last) R2 in the Phone Game and really thought I'd get The Call that evening? :P

I was in sixth grade, with my wonderful teacher Ms. Rothschild who many hated because she smoked and was old, but I loved because she enjoyed knowing and teaching odd facts which she dubbed PQs (pocket questions). She encouraged me to memorize all the state capitals because it was good to know. I suppose that was really the beginning of my trivia career. I mean, how many teachers walk into their class on the first day and ask sharply "Who said 'veni vidi vici?'"
She passed away last year and the amount of people at her funeral was staggering...

Oh, and I knew the answer...There ya go Marley...you asked :)
