I moved away just before the 97 season started - I listened to him a lot while I lived in Cleveland - They didn't televise all games back then. I figure few people in history watched as much bad baseball as he did, One of the reasons I hoped they would win a World Series in 95 or 97 was for Herb - after calling the Indians from 1965 to 1993 he deserved a chance to call a World Series win - like many he have to support them from elsewhere in their quest. At least they have 40 fewer years of waiting than the Cubbies.

I was trying to say that he announced for a very bad Indians team from 1965 (I guess it 1963) through 1993. They did not compete for a title ever during that time. They were in the hunt in 94 (which got cut short by the strike). He was in the booth from 1995 to 1997 and called both WS appearances. After all the bad baseball it would have been nice to reach the pinnacle with him calling. They were oh so close in 1997 - in 95 they got shut down by Maddux, Glavine and Smoltz.

Knowing that and re-reading, I see what you were trying to say now. Obvously, I thought you were saying his tenure was 1965-1993.

I know my Angels couldn't beat them for a few years, around 1995, or so. An ex-roommate was a rabid Indians fan. He liked them despite Albert Belle, who I couldn't stand.
