RIP Gus
According to the Chicago Trib, Gus, a pedigreed Cinese Crested and winner of the 2008 World's Ugliest Dog contest, has passed on at the tender age of 9..

There is something wrong in a government where they who do the most have the least. There is something wrong when honesty wears a rag, and rascality a robe; when the loving, the tender, eat a crust while the infamous sit at banquets.

Thankfully, before his passing, he was able to see history to be made with the Obama capture of the White House.

OMG, holtdad, was this a shot at Obama's grandmother? Your complete lack of class is hardly surprising but still depressing. Ya know what's really really funny is that in your heart of hearts you honestly believe that Heaven awaits you. Think again.Thankfully, before his passing, he was able to see history to be made with the Obama capture of the White House.

It was supposed to be a joke about the media saturation of the "Obama/history" thing.
However, I can see where you would make the other connection.
I can edit/delete, if you were offended.

Seriously? That's what you got from his post? Wow.

Hmm, I can not figure out if it was just NE1410S who mis-read my post, if most BBs just have me on this "foes" block listing, or what?
There have been a bunch of views of the thread, with little reaction.

I took your comment in the way you explained, and I reacted to the response the way t-girl did. The death of Obama's grandmother did not occur to me until ne1 brought it up.

While I didn't get your joke, I didn't interpret it as ne1 did. In turn, I took ne1's reply as an example (intentional or not, I don't know) of the zealous quote mining we've seen so much in the recent campaign. Find a word or phrase you don't like, interpret it in the most outrageous way possible, then express outrage.
I wish everyone could give it a rest.
For the record, I don't have anyone on my "foes" list.

Re: RIP Gus
As one who is beloved by everyone on this Bored and has never said anything controversial, the first thing that came to my mind was Obama's statements about getting a new dog for the White House. I didn't find it particularly funny, but I didn't think it the slightest bit offensive either. I think it requires an exceptionally strained interpretation to make that quote have anything to do with Obama's grandmother.MarleysGh0st wrote:Yeah, I thought it was best to stay out of other people's fights.silvercamaro wrote:Mostly, I think you are seeing "avoidance."Appa23 wrote:Hmm, I can not figure out if it was just NE1410S who mis-read my post, if most BBs just have me on this "foes" block listing, or what?

Exceptionally strained interpretations of any statement that is less than extraordinarily adulatory about Obama seem to be a specialty of his supporters, as evidenced by the many, many efforts at interpreting any criticism of him as racist.

Nope, didn't find it offensive, just very strange........
Believe it or not, HD is NOT on my foes list. He tries to be funny, and that in itself is funny.

I just took it as a combination of the inability to let sleeping dogs lie, the need to drive things into the ground and the passive/aggressive tendency to think that these things are clever.
And liking to see responses to his posts.

Since you were one of those who found Obama's final trip to visit his grandmother as another subject for suspicion and conspiracy blather, my advice applies doubly to you, SSS.
Give it a rest!

O.K. I knew you couldn't be talking about Beaver's fireman friend. He had one foot in grave when in prime time.

AND, because KT, the 'Burgher, posted it, I thought the Pennsylvania Lottery was changing its advertising and was getting rid of spokesrodent Gus the Groundhog, the second-most famous groundhog in Pennsylvania.

Maybe the poster was having a difficult day. I've made remarks that were off base and have been given the benefit of the doubt. Maybe something else triggered that association. Who knows.
