Grout report

#1 Post by Beebs52 » Wed Nov 05, 2008 9:06 pm

Undiluted bleach effects NO change whatsoever. I'm trying to pull from the folds of my extremely large brain...Oooh! Fluffy bunnies! Linzertorte!

Excuse me. I was diverted by a ganglion or something. I was trying to pull from my head what I may have put on the blasted grout way back when. Like 12 years ago. It started out as white and is now ochre. Maybe it's just cheap crappy grout, although it's held up well these last 19 years, so it's not crumbling or anything.

Perhaps I'll just repaint with a sealant again for the cosmetic affect.

Chemistry follow up please.
Well, then

Try the toilet bowl cleaner, the cheaper the better. I had just had my bathroom re-tiled a few months before I moved, so I don't know if it would have done the same on the grout as it did on the tub. But it's worth $1.17 to find out.

As for the other grout and caulked areas in my bathroom and kitchen, I just hit it with a steamer and a flat head and got the yucky layer off then got that caulk in a cheez whiz can (the ONLY place I've ever been able to find that is at Mecca) and redid everything. Once you get your touch on just right, it comes out in the thinnest little tendril that smooths out perfectly with a finger. I went nuts with that stuff and cleaned up every crevice in sight.

Try CLR.

I will buy the cheap toilet bowl cleaner and CLR on my next run. I'm on a mission.

One of those steamer gadgets is not such a bad idea either.

The grout isn't dirty, though. I have hand scrubbed each and every grout section and removed the dirt residue. There isn't any mold or grime or anything. It's just ochre colored.

I am awaiting the CLR and toilet bowl cleaner report.

The particles in grout are ceramic (the grit part) like in nature held together by a binder (polymer resin). The particles are REALLY unlikely to change color, but the binder may have yellowed.

I am going to try toilet bowl cleaner later tonight in a pesky corner of my stall shower.

If the two approached suggested by clever BBs don't work, you may have to resort to regrouting or applying a white colorant over the grout. I think they are also available in a pen like applicator similar to the bleach pen.

I have been hanging around the Bored way too long.

At first glance I thought the header said "gout report".

I'm just sayin'.

Me too! great minds, and all...

It's not like we haven't seen that before, anyway.

The only other thing I can think of is KaBOOM for the toilets. But that's basically the same as toilet cleaner.

Maybe it is discolored and beyond help. I'm sorry that bleach didn't work, I live for my bleach pen. It takes a while but always does the trick...I hope it continues to do so in the future!!
