Good news for female migraine sufferers!
A recent study indicates that women who suffer from migraines (like me!) have a 30% less chance of getting breast cancer.
(Edited because I finally realize that I said migraines instead of breast cancer. Duh!)

You mean it lessens your chances of getting breast cancer. Well, it sucks that you get migraines - they're a bitch, but at least there appears to be a sliver of a silver lining...A recent study indicates that women who suffer from migraines (like me!) have a 30% less chance of getting migraines.

Yes, I saw that, I was very excited!
Mostly because there is currently a headache coming on...so for once at least I could see something positive about it! This one is going to be a doozie, I can tell. I hate when they start at this time of day, because I can't go hide in the dark like I want (and need) to.
PSM have you found any good tricks or anything??

I used to get a couple every month, but I've only had one in the past couple of years. I hope that still counts; all that pain and nausea had better turn out to be good for me. Ugh, even thinking about migraines makes me nauseous.

Here's a better idea-
If you have migraines, get them treated succesfully, then you'll have
Less Migraines and
Less chance of breast cancer!

For migraines, acupuncture stopped my having optical migraines that I'd had for years. My sister had the same results with a chiropractor.sunflower wrote:Yes, I saw that, I was very excited!

I can have a stabbing headache or a stress headache and my chiropractor can make it stop immediately.

When I feel them coming, I change into all cotton clothes and go into my room. We have blinds that black out the room, so I lower them so that my room is as dark as possible. I usually put a icy cold rag on my forehead and take Ultram or Imitrex. If I don't catch the migraine in time and I start vomiting, I just try to sleep it off, if I can't I go to the ED for IV Imitrex and Dilaudid.sunflower wrote:Yes, I saw that, I was very excited!

When I was in my late teens and twenties I got migraines very regularly. Now, I get maybe one or two a year. Yeah I really wish I could go hide right now! Fluorescent lights (which are in my office) are the most offensive to a migraine. On the bright side, I was able to get a massage appointment for tonight, which usually helps a little bit.

I find a cause of many people's migraines is a circulatory insult on the vertebral artery. Many times, when I do gentle spinal adjustments (no rotation) they really do clear.
Kay could vouch for me.

Why the cotton clothes? I began getting migraines following a car accident/closed head injury, but in the last few years I don't get the actual headache, just some precursors (auras, light/sound sensitivity, nausea, etc) once or twice a month.I change into all cotton clothes

Re: Good news for female migraine sufferers!
I get the auras, light sensitivity and nausea as well. I've had cat scans and neurological workups, but I just have to learn to deal with the headaches when I have them. I also know that at certain times of the month I have to be careful about my chocolate and cheese consumption, even though I crave it, because they are triggers.tlynn78 wrote:Why the cotton clothes? As far as the cotton clothes, I just think it works for me because it's soft, loose and non-constricting.

Ah, the jammies factor. Can't be overrated.

Re: Good news for female migraine sufferers!
I know that's what got me...I had chocolate yesterday and today, even though I knew I shouldn't this week. And I got my characteristic neck pain last night that usually signals I should stay in line or risk a migraine! But the cake looked so good...and now I'll pay the price for 2 days!
I do all cotton too, just for comfort. I actually have one pair of yoga pants that are a size too big, I wear them when I get sick or have a headache, I don't like to feel constricted at all. I use my cooling eye mask too. But nothing ever really makes them go away for me...I need to recognize warning signs and stop it before it really starts or I'm usually a goner.

Yeah, it's probably hormonal. I found switching birth control to be very effective, but I know for some people that only makes it worse. Of course, the birth control will probably give me cancer too. Oh well.PlacentiaSoccerMom wrote:When I was in my late teens and twenties I got migraines very regularly. Now, I get maybe one or two a year.
