Yikers!! Winter storm on its way

#1 Post by kusch » Wed Nov 05, 2008 1:37 pm

Gulp. Yesterday, did someone in one of the political threads say the sun would come up tomorrow? Not here. It has been raining all morning and is suppose to turn to snow tonight. Possible winds the next couple of days will have gusts to 50mph. Anywhere from 1 to 11 inches of snow. Sh**. If we get that 11 inches and that wind it will not be pretty. Tell me again why I live here? :D

75 and sunny here, which is pretty much the forecast for the rest of the week. :)

I don't know. Why do you live there?

Well Honey, it is not a place I associate with 75 degree days in November!

:D

Now can we all sing a chorus of 'The Sun Will Come Out Tomorrow' for Kusch?

So the snow storms in Colorado moved north instead of south? I was wondering why I didn't wake up to the snow storm they promised.

Appreciate it, Kusch!

With apologies to Rexer, it's my fault. Some ratbastard broke out my car window Monday night, so after the last three weeks or so of beautiful sunny weather, the rain/snow moved in here yesterday, just about the time the bodyshop guy was telling me it'll be 5 days before they can get a replacement window.

I'm looking at the radar maps and it doesn't look like you're going to get much if any snow.

Well thanks. Do you want to come here and help me shovel again tonight after work? :D I already did it once this morning and it usually takes me about 20 minutes. Because it was so wet and heavy it took close to 45 minutes. About 2-3 inches of very wet and very heavy (when shoveling) snow so far and it is still snowing. Wind is not too bad right now but with fresh snow and wind I would not advise highway driving--which means several co-workers will not make it in for work today. The snow is great for making a snowman. So wet that you could make a life size one in about 2 minutes. :o

Well we got around 10 inches and with the winds it made some drifts around here 3-4feet tall. My driveway had between 2-3 foot drifts on about 60% of it. Schools have been closed today and most of the other banks are closed. We are open and it will be a very slow day. It is clear and not snowing now, but the trouble is shortage of plows and drivers to get everything opened up. Lots of fender benders because we got rain before the snow so most streets are sheets of ice underneath the snow. Weekend looks like the sun will come out and be near 30 so a lot of the snow will melt because the ground is not yet completly frozen.

Hey Christie, hows about coming over making some soup or chilli? :D

Whoa!

How far is it from your home to the bank? Can you get there by foot...err, snowshow...or do you have to dig out the car?

I live real close to the bank and would have walked but 2 hours of shoveling last night and another hour this morning cleared my driveway and I drove. I live only a block and a half from a major ave that gets cleared right away so it was not a real problem. Both my cars are in the garage (unlike the Californians that do not use their garages for cars  ) so no digging out cars. Oh, I saw some cars parked on streets that may be there until later this weekend.

It's so funny about cars and storms! We can't fit both cars inside because of all the ancillary crap, but anything crashing on the Tackymobile would be an improvement anyway. When a hurricane was coming, our neighbors moved their garbage cans (!) inside, so the car that was left outside had a tree fall on it. It was a company car, but it was a Lexus! When snow comes, the people across the street move their cars to the end of the driveway so the end will be clear, since the sun doesn't shine there and the snow won't melt easily. It's not like the cars will ever get buried here. Our driveway gets the sun, we actually have a snow shovel (cheap plastic, but that's all you need here) and child labor to get the path clear...

We haven't seen a drop of rain for 3 weeks here. It's been
close to 80 degrees all week. They mentioned the words " possible chance of rain"
for Sunday. Supposedly a carbon copy of yesterday for today.

It is now so dark outside my window it looks like night and it's pouring rain.
