The Portland Oregonian projects Gordon Smith to have lost his Senate seat in Oregon. Congressional Quarterly concurs. Merkey has already taken the lead, and most of the uncounted vote is in Multnomah County (Oregon) or Lane County (Eugene).

Preliminary returns have Norm Coleman ahead of Al Franken in Minnesota by 571 votes, leading under state law to an automatic recount.

And it looks like they also re-elected a soon-to-be convicted felon--Rep. Don Young.

Dem pickup #3.
I don't think this was an upset. Liddy Dole had gotten zero money from the national party, barely established her residence to get elected the first time, and ran unconscionably ugly ads the final week. She had no chance.

It was an upset if it means any incumbent losing is an upset, I guess.
