Congratulations President-Elect Obama

#1 Post by gotribego26 » Tue Nov 04, 2008 10:09 pm

You ran a great campaign - you inspired many - you've opened doors that could not have been imagined when I was born.

Go out and make the United States all it can be.

Yes, the easy part's over.

Well done! Let's get to work.

I hope that he gets a good team together, especially people who will help him in areas where he has weaknesses.

That would be every area other than speech making.

Sour grapes already? Come on, now. Give the American people who just voted for him some more credit than that.

The last two times out the American public voted for George W. Bush.... they're not exactly on a roll.

This is what some of us said we wanted when we were kids.

We said we wanted young people to register to vote and cast an informed ballot. That happened.

We said we wanted to elect people based on who most closely matched our beliefs on the issues, not based on gender or skin color. That happened.

We said we tired of the Washington military-industrial complex running things to suit themselves in a self-serving plutocracy. We put our vote where our mouths were.

Brick by brick, block by block -- millions of us are ready to get to work and rebuild after the unmitigated disasters of the past eight years. Let's do it.

That's not an example of sour grapes. Sour grapes is when you don't win and say what you would have won wasn't worth winning. I expect someone here will do that: say, "I'm glad the Republicans didn't win because now they won't be blamed for the terrible economy."

By the way, I see by your avatar that you've taken the bull by the horns. Now what? :P

No it didn't. I doubt over 5% of those young, newly registered voters could name 4 of the Supreme Court justices, both of their US Senators, or even their US Representative. But 75% of them could name the cast of Scrubs.

You take out the votes for Obama because he is black and the votes for Obama because he is not Bush or associated with Bush and McCain wins. In the end, it was not about what Obama believes. Maybe 70% of his votes, but those didn't put in in the White House.

So now we will have a quarter of a million more armed folks stomping around in our country telling us what to do and what not to.

Other than Iraq, what disasters did Bush cause? I'll give you a better man would have stopped them from happening (mortgage crisis, energy crisis for examples), but most were caused, chapioned and sponsored by the Democratic party.
..what country can preserve it’s liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? let them take arms.

Apart from that, Mrs Lincoln, how did you enjoy the play?

First off, let me start by saying that I can not help but be happy that America has elected its first mixed-race or "non-white" President. I did fear the existence of the "Bradley Effect", and thankfully it did not occur.

However, I can not help but think that Dr. King's vision, his dream, is not fully realized. As a society, we still have not reached the point where we judge someone on the content of their character and not the color of their skin. We are halfway there. We have shown that large numbers of white voters will vote for a black man when there is a white opponent.

I hope to see the point in my lifetime where there is no "racial identity" voting on either side.

(Oh, I also hope to see a Constitutional Amendment allowing non-"native born" citizens to be President. Who Do We Want? The Boy! 2044 )

Now we'll just have a big, bloated Washington bureaucracy running things to suit themselves in a self-serving plutocracy. You think that's better?

And I ask again- how do you think that will happen, and how will Obama deliver it?

No she won't- I'm a realist.

I saw and heard too many people going into vote that didn't have a clue why they were voting for whom they were voting.

And yes- I know the danger of extrapolating from my anecdotal experiences, but still...

Just like I know that you are going to be sorely disappointed if you expect "the change we need" to start being built "brick by brick".

Especially if you're counting on the government to help do it.

I can, (and I can also name the cast of scrubs). And I'm not the only one. However, I doubt over 5% of voters in any age group could do that. No, not even those old, wise people who voted for McCain. Most people just aren't that informed. You don't have to pin it on the demographic who just didn't agree with you.

I still don't understand how that comment got injected into our tangent of the thread's discussion. In talking about your kids potentially running for office, decades from now, you made a joke about Princess Peanut being bossy (if I understand you correctly). I followed that up with a joke about quote mining, with the implication that such a comment by PP's father could be dug up, all those years hence, to haunt her.

Where does racism enter into this? :?

(We were not discussing anything about the "native-born American" amendment, at this point.)

Nothing like dissecting a tongue-in-cheek remark.

You see, Marley, if my daughter did run for President in 36 years, and if my post was raised, she simply could dismiss it as the comments of a racist. After all, I didn't even vote for Obama.
