Question for those watching the coverage
Have they had the concession and acceptance speeches yet? I just came down a few minutes ago and saw the television, but it's hard to tell as they're just blathering on.

Never mind, they just said McCain would be speaking in a few minutes.
And I happened to think after I posted that, if Obama had spoken yet, they'd be showing the afterspeech celebrating and confetti and whatnot.

Classy Elegant concession speech.
A true gentleman.
I think he would have done better with a different running mate. His age made a strong VP essential, and too many people were worried about Palin's inexperience.
(ps, before blasting me for having an opinion, remember that geographically, what hits your fan, blows this way too. We have been watching most anxiously for our own safety.)

I might have voted for him with a different running mate. I am sure that many people feel the same way.

McCain's speech reminded me of how much I liked the pre-this campaign McCain. I hope he can help to truly unite the country behind our new president, and I hope that President Obama can find some way to involve him in his administration.

McCain wasn't bitter and Obama wasn't gloating and they were both gracious.
I try to have hope that their respective followers will take a page and follow suit, but I don't hold out much of it.

It was easy for us. We were delirious. We almost swept. One of our County Commissioner candidates lost to someone claiming to be a centrist (I'll believe it when I see it, but it could happen), and 59 went down.
There were a bunch of tch!s when McCain mentioned Palin as "an impressive new voice in our party for reform . . . "
We did have to agree that she's an excellent campaigner.

A trivia question for those who watched the concession speech (I don't know the answer and would really like to): Did anyone recognize the music they played when McCain finished the speech? It sounded somber and martial, possibly from a war movie, but I can't place it.

I was not a rabid or devoted (or even strong) follower of either candidate, so I don't really have a reason to be bitter or gloating. I think it will be interesting to see how particular supporters (I'm speaking within the confines of this message board, but the universal also applies) handle the victory or defeat in comparison to how they conducted themselves prior. I think that behaviour in the aftermath is more telling than behaviour in the heat of battle.
It will be interesting to me, at least.
