Silly Ideas Needed

#1 Post by christie1111 » Sat Nov 01, 2008 12:40 pm

I am better at practical stuff.

My s-i-l has her last chemo treatment on Wed. Swampyturtles had sent a box with little silly things for her to open every day of radiation/chemo. But last week for her last radiation she had to wait for the chemo because of blood work results. So there are no presents left to open.

So I need a few silly, little items to bring to dinner tomorrow that can get unwrapped on Wed.

Thanks for your help.

paper umbrellas for fruit drinks

socks with faces drawn on them to be puppets

snow globes

pencils/pens with funny things on the eraser end - or just buy pens/pencils and put things on there yourself

silly wigs, if the patient has a sense of humor about their hair

for sure, interesting hats

Visit the Thrift Store nearest you -- they've always got some silly stuff.

Maybe a stuffed animal -- maybe even an ES lookalike! And after you're done with it, you can send it to me for Casey to chew up!

I have a little satin stuffed heart

Sorry about that, my computer musta been tired. Or the mention of ES threw it into a tizzy.

I have a little satin stuffed heart, about 4" in diameter, very silly, but I love it anyway.

Maybe some funny pins or bumper stickers -- for us "Dog is my co-pilot" is perfect, and I bet there's one out there that will suit your SIL perfectly too. There are Halloween pins with ghosts under the Restricted sign, also a Whining under a restricted sign. Maybe that one's not so hot, SIL is probably entitled to a little whining at this point.

Good luck, and good luck to SIL.

Many good vibes and prayers for her, Christie.

How about a WhackaMole game? Sometimes you can get little cheap ones at a drug store. That way she can hit stuff.
Well, then

I think SIL needs an array of Hello Kitty accessories.

Go to The Dollar Store.

They have all sorts of things that would be considered silly. Party headbands (they have all sorts of things attached to them), bubble making stuff (nothing can make me smile more than bubbles) or those New Years Eve things you throw and they unroll.

The Dollar Store is your friend.

Do you have a Sam Moon, Charming Charlie or a Claire's anywhere near? Cheap jewelry, purses, doodads (like for $3 a pop) might work. You could get some over the top holiday themed things that might be amusing.

I'm liking the paper umbrellas and snow globes. What about swizzle sticks?

Thanks everyone!

I looked for swizzle sticks, etc. Here is what I got:

Candles in the shape of baloons
Really sparkly confetti
A little bear with a T-shirt that says 'Someone in Stratford Loves You' (but oddly enough I bought it in Milford)
A PlayDoh flower and vase kit (ages 3 and up)

I think it was light hearted enough. I wish I had more time to shop, but it was what it was.

Thanks again!

My thoughts are with your s-i-l as she fights the fight.
