You're really getting a discount on your grocery purchases, which is applied to your gas purchase. That doesn't make the gas price relevant to other price comparisons.

Here in Ithaca, gas is usually higher than neighboring counties, which are already high because of the state taxes. :(

Well I know that! But I am just really happy that something I do anyway is helping me save money on gas. I won't let me brain worry about how I am probably getting charged more for groceries, etc. I am a glass half full kind of person and am just happy to feel like I am paying less for gas.

Anyway, considering my food bill due to Son1111, I need all the help I can get!

Do you think they don't mind if I can't spell?

And while you are quoting me, can you fix my typos?

I think that is a typical gas price spread between the Northeast and the Gulf Coast. Taxes are part of the reason why and other local costs are also a factor.

Today's average prices:

U.S. 2.400
New England 2.448
Central Atlantic 2.561
Lower Atlantic 2.365
Midwest 2.237
Gulf Coast 2.228
Rocky Mountain 2.482
West Coast w/o CA 2.665
California 2.783

So, the difference between New England and the West Coast is about the same as the difference between the Gulf Coast and New England.
No matter where you go, there you are.

1.97 at the HEB and Randall across the freeway. Randalls give another 3 cents off just for using their 'card', so I count that at 1.94. I got 20 cents off the other night, after spending $100 for groceries (or was it $200?). Anyway, 1.84 per gallon. Course now, its even cheaper starting off.

How long has it been since gas was below $2? I remember in the Summer of 2005, just before Katrina I got mad at my wife for paying 2.01, breaking that barrier, when she could have kept it under $2 if she just looked. I think it went back below $2 about 6 months after Rita (jan 2006?) but went back over in the Summer of 2006 and hasn't been below since...until now. (If I'm remembering correctly).

$2.19 here now.

I'm at half a tank and probably won't need to fill up again till next weekend, so I'm expecting a post-Election Day jump......
