Effigy of noosed Palin prompts visit from feds

#1 Post by Bob Juch » Wed Oct 29, 2008 11:55 am

Secret Service agents have investigated a Halloween mannequin of Republican vice presidential hopeful Sarah Palin hanging from a noose.

Good. That kind of garbage has no place in civilized society.

I agree. Totally inappropriate, whether it was a Palin mannequin or an Obama mannequin.

Strange....I could show them an Obama mannequin hanging from a tree (well, Leah could; she drives by it after work....)

No one seems to be making any fuss.

Surely it's not the only one in the country.

Yesterday somebody threw a deer head in front of the door of the Obama campaign headquarters here.
We, the HK Brigade, do hereby salute you, Marley, for your steadfast devotion to ontopicosity. Well done, sir!

I agree with everyone -- this kind of sh!t is way beyond the pale, from either side.

Incidentally, there have been several Obama effigies reported so far, including this beaut from a self-described racist in Ohio:

http://current.com/items/89419260_ohio_ ... bama_ghost

If you look closely at the video in the linked article, you can spot a Star of David on the ghost-effigy's head in addition to the upside-down Obama sticker and the misspelled "Hussein" above it. (What, is he Muslim and Jewish now?) This line from the article particularly struck me: "He spoke to us off-camera, saying his views could hurt his employers business." Ya think?

For the record, I don't hold either campaign responsible for the actions of such individual morons. It's too bad, though, that the general political atmosphere has become so poisoned that stuff like this happens.

I remembered this story from last month, where an Obama effigy was immediately removed from a college campus.

The hanging dummy I referred to is in Penn Hills -- very much a mixed neighborhood. I do not know the race of the homeowner.

As I said, no one is making any fuss over it.

There will be rioting Tuesday night in a number of large cities regardless of who wins.

It will be much, much worse if McCain wins.

The girls' former piano teacher has a huge Obama sign on her front lawn. She told me on Sunday that people had shot holes through it with a BB gun.

I got chewed out 2nite (get in line, y'all) because I wouldn't help LocalCandidateA pitch a fit over folkses stealing his signs, when I did help LocalCandidateB respond to a half-page attack ad in the local garbagewrapper.

The reply basically said, "All y'all Republicans, you're better than this. Please repudiate this garbage."

I don't think they will.

I don't think A will quit getting his signs stolen.

The race will be razor thin, but I think he will lose. :(

Candidate B will win easily. :)

Of course it will be much worse if McCain wins. I thought you agreed with that. Isn't that why you're an Obama supporter?

Oh, he's talking about riots? I don't think McCain will win, and I don't think there will be a lot of riots if he does. But I don't think it's racist to disagree with that. I do think there is a greater potential for riots in protest of a McCain victory than in celebration of an Obama one.

Good. I found this act to be sickening. This crap should not be tolerated.

Thank goodness we aren't in a "9th World Country" where people do get violent over election results. Our system always provides for an orderly change of Government every two years in Congress and every four years in the White House. Amen! :D
