Fireproof

My wife and I went to see Fireproof at the movies this past weekend. The trouble with most Christian-themed movies is that one's conversion and/or relationship with Christ is such an internal thing that it is difficult to portray on screen without it seeming melodramatic and therefore unrealistic. Fireproof avoided that as much as it could, but some elements of that were there. Still, this was a movie shot for half a million dollars with church member volunteers as actors (with the notable exception of Kirk Cameron), and was very well done for what it is. Yes the acting wasn't that great, but it wasn't too terribly bad either. The film has a great message, and the filmmakers threw in quite a bit of humor to counterbalance the serious subject matter.

I am quite pleased that the box office gross of Fireproof has more than doubled that of Bill Maher's religion-mocking "documentary."
