We're getting there. It's still a bit high, IMO. Once we get back down to $1.50, I will be satisfied.

I am thankful. But, we're still getting jabbed. The oil companies will continue to jab us as long as they can.
There is no other reason why it continues to be as must as it is. The price of a barrel of oil is now LOWER
than it was when the price of gas started to skyrocket.

That is true, but the prices you're hearing today are also for future delivery, so there is some lag there. But I agree that the gas price should be a lot lower.

We will never see $1.50 in CT...our gas tax is far too high for that ever to happen. Plus I'm sure OPEC is going to cut production in order to lower supply and increase price, they can't be happy right now.

Because with the higher price of houses, state taxes and property taxes, we have so much money left over to pay for gas.

Good point about the tornado, mini. But come up here and you can avoid the earthquakes, the hurricanes, the tornadoes, the wildfires...all we have is a little bit of snow!

I like to keep 30-35 gallons stashed back for emergencies (Katrina logic) and refilled my cans this morning for $2.29 a gallon. The last time I filled them in the spring, it was with 2.99 gas. I used that gas during the summer when our gas topped $3.90 for a while. Unfortunately, gas doesn't keep for long periods of time. If it did, I would fill up a 500 gallon drag tank now while it is cheap. I suspect these prices won't last too long.

That is true, but the prices you're hearing today are also for future delivery, so there is some lag there. But I agree that the gas price should be a lot lower.

We will never see $1.50 in CT...our gas tax is far too high for that ever to happen. Plus I'm sure OPEC is going to cut production in order to lower supply and increase price, they can't be happy right now.

Funny that there's no lag when the price goes up.

Are you in Missouri or Illinois?

Gas in Cali always seems to be a full dollar higher than in Omaha. I drive to KC around once a month, and the gas in KS and MO is about the same as the Omaha area. It is usually 10 cents cheaper in Iowa (b/c of state gas tax). Also, I am comparing ethanol blend for Nebraska versus normal unleaded in KS/MO.

Gas on the Illinois side of the St. Louis area shot up to $4.09 on Wednesday September 10th (It was in the $3.70's on the MO side). Then Ike hit Texas the following weekend, and gas did not budge from $4.09 until the last week of September. PSM reported in a thread at that time paying somewhere in the upper $3's for gas (I'm thinking, without looking it up, in the $3.79 range). At the time, nobody else on the Bored could touch the $4.09 we were paying here, and in the following days, only the Ike gouged and shorted areas were paying as much or more for their gas than we were....

When I was in KC on the 16th and 17th, gas was in the low $3.50's and had dropped anothe rdime before I left. Of course, it was still $4.09 back at home and would be for another week......

The curves are similar, although these two graphs use slightly different scales.

The price of crude oil is a smaller fraction of the price of diesel while distribution and taxes are a higher fraction. That might explain some of it.

Demand for diesel is also probably more stable than for gasoline. Auto driving has fallen quite a bit this year but I'll bet diesel usage has stayed pretty much the same.

Convenience Store News says some diesel sales actually went up in September after falling in the summer:

On Sunday we paid $1.89 in San Antonio.

Reports of $1.79 here in Houston today.

Please explain. What does my negativity towards sharing the wealth have to do with her paying high gas prices? I would just as soon see the same gas prices everywhere. But, it is a common (mis)conception that because one lives in California, one is quite well off and can afford the higher prices.

I paid $2.35 yesterday and that was at BJ's where you have to be a member to get lower prices. I find it hard to believe there are people in the 1.80's, that's such a big difference!!!

I paid $1.759 on Sunday in Milford CT with our discount program at the local grocery store.

Although I seem to be getting double credit for my food purchases. I don't know why, but am not feeling inclined to ask why yet.
