Louisville.

I'd never been there before.

What a lovely city! And what lovely people.

On behalf of the people of the River City, I thank you.

So what brought you to Derbytown and what did you see while you were here?

I was there for a conference. I stayed at the Galt House, 14th floor, with a great view of the river facing west. I went to the Glassworks and made a bowl then took a tour, went to the Kentucky Art and Craft Museum, visited the gift shop at the Louisville Slugger factory, and generally walked around downtown. While sitting at the hotel bar, I saw the departure of the Delta Queen. Yesterday I went to the Kentucky Horse Park. Other than that, I took two statistics classes and attended sessions on the quality of medical literature.

While in Louisville, I saw my first Jill Long Thompson campaign ads. They don't play up here in Jasper County. I was also able to get an Obama sign, also something in short supply up here in Jasper County.

You saw what is probably the last appearance of the Delta Queen in Louisville. Although for years it's been the rival of the local Belle of Louisville in the annual Great Steamboat Race during Derby Week in May, this is likely the Queen's last voyage. There is a maritime law that requires wooden ships meet certain fire codes in order to have overnight cruises, and the Queen doesn't meet the requirements. For years the Queen has received a Congressional exemption to the requirement, but someone this year is stubbornly refusing to grant the exemption. So the Queen is headed to New Orleans where it will be sold.

Living on the edge of Indiana and being the major media market for the region we get a lot of Indiana ads. Thompson's ads are relatively new to the airwaves but we've been seeing Hill and Sodrel ads for quite a while. We also get Obama and McCain ads aimed at Indiana (Kentucky being a reliable red state).
