I had a plan night before last for some spaghetti while my parents were visiting. The plan was to brown a pound of ground beef and a pound of ground veal, add it to homemade puttanesca sauce and pasta. But I goofed. Lucky for us, I noticed the goof before it was too late: instead of ground beef, I picked up ground lamb by mistake. Whoops.
We ended up doing a bunch of hot italian sausage and ground veal instead, and wow - it was really great. Way better than it would have been with the beef! Rave reviews all around.
But now...what the heck should I do with this ground lamb? I've only ever cooked lamb in stews or as chops before....I'm guessing there is probably some great middle eastern thing I could do with it. Any ideas?

Moussaka!
Be right back with a recipe!
Or Shepard's pie, which is easy.

Cut in half for one lb. It says beef, but I use ground lamb in moussaka. Saute the vegetables and just add in to the already cooked lamb.
Or use the lamb as a base for shepard's pie which just requires adding some gravy (beef would be fine with the lamb) to the cooked ground meat with some frozen peas and top with mashed potatoes and bake in a casserole dish.
Need more?

Add a beaten egg and some seasoned bread crumbs, a little Cavendar's Greek seasoning
and broil or grill as you would a nice beef hamburger.

Back to the subject, and probably too late for you, but you could go cross-cultural and make a gyro taco. Taco shell, but gyro-style filling.
Makes me hungry, even though it's early Monday AM. Too bad GW doesn't like lamb. We use beef or chicken strips when she makes gyros.
I just ordered chicken and an egg from Amazon. I'll let you know.

Ooohhhhhhh....now you're making me think about the lovely chunky pork souvlaki I used to order at this place that closed long ago. It was a Greek pizza parlor run by Filipinos. So you could eat lumpia while waiting for your pizza or souvlaki.
Too bad the widened the road and built dorms and a convocation center. A bunch of small businesses got demolished, including the nightclub I wasted many a night in when I was 19...
