Paid 285.9 yesterday ...

#1 Post by mntetn » Wed Oct 15, 2008 11:20 am

... in the cave region of KY, which is usually a little higher than surrounding areas. But it was 299.9 on the border yesterday morning, 295.9 by evening.

It's dipped into the 3-teens in Nashville as of this morning.

How are others doing?

For some reason Charlotte and Nashville are still getting hosed in gas deliveries - regualts still 3.299 here - although if I go 5 miles south tot he Palmetto state is is under $3.00 - satte taxes are about 12 cents of the difference.

I filled up two days ago at $2.519. That was for 100 percent gas, no ethanol.

It's 3.08 here in NW Indiana. Last weekend it was 2.65 in Plymouth, IN, and on the far south side of South Bend.

I filled up Sept 30 as it was the last day for my grocery card discount. As of the 11th, it had gone down 36 cents since then (3.49 to 3.13). I'm still struggling with whether or not to be pissed about it.

Across the street from work, where I usually fill up, it was $3.039 this morning. But over the weekend near home, the gas station we pass on our way to the grocery store dropped from $3.099 to $2.999 just in the time between when we went to the store and when we returned. Not what you typically think about from the phrase "dropping a dime".
I just ordered chicken and an egg from Amazon. I'll let you know.

I'll have to tell my sister. Her family left last night to get moved up there. I'm not sure exactly where, but my BIL will work in Galesburg.

And just to keep the post on-topic (of the thread) I paid $2.82 in Dalworthington Gardens, TX today.
Enough already. It's my fault! Get over it!

That'll be $10, please.

Something funny continues to go on with prices around here, though this time it's for the better.

The price has dropped about 65 cents since the previous weekend when it was still in the upper $3.50's. It's currently $2.93 at the station down the street.

What's odd is that over on the Mo side of the river, where the tax in cheaper, gas is only $2.88. So somehow over the course of the past 2 weeks, gas went from being 35-40 cents cheaper in Missouri to being just a nickel cheaper. The usual average is about 20-25 cents difference..... so something is once again screwy. But I will not argue over the prices this time.... even though I had to go back into the Quik Trip I filled up at tonight to get $3 of the $25 prepay I made since I've gotten used to spending $25-$30 per fillup, adn it onyl took $22 this time (Yes, it's nice to drive an economy car with a small tank.....)

Well I paid $4.65, but I have no idea what I bought. It might have been a gallon of Hello Kitty tears.

3.09 is more prevalent

Nah, he paid 285.9 cents. Got a gallon of gas. Lugging around all that change is tough but slicing off a tenth of the pennies is even worse.

Actually it's not that bad. I just separate the head from the tail, then cut one up one of the slices like Trivial Pursuit® pieces.

What's tougher is paying 0.79 cents for a bag of potato chips.

Yeah. We had that problem for a while here in the library. We charge 10 cents for copies. One of the people that would collect money would write down the amount, for example, as ".30 cents" rather than 30 cents. I would often ask her who made a third of a copy.

I explained it to her many times but she would go right back to writing it that way.

Habits are hard to break, even (and especially) if they are bad ones.....

Anytime I write down a dollar amount, I always put the dollar sign after the price, for example, 5.97$. To me and my logic, it makes sense to have the $ after the price, not before it, so that's how I put it down....

When I put the price on those plastic signs on something at work, I had trouble remembering to do it the right way for a while. I now put the $ on the left without even thinking about it because I have just integrated it as part of the price changing routine, but I will still put it on the right when writing a price down informally on paper.....

I paid $2.49 a gallon last night for gas in Humble, Texas. That's right outside Houston.

There are reports of prices in the $2.20-$2.30 range in Houston.

The price of crude oil fell again yesterday. It's down to below $70 a barrel for light sweet crude. That's down from a high of $147 in July.

Paid $2.79.9 here in northeast Maryland yesterday. More typical is around 2.89.

Sure beats 3.89!
