Tires slashed outside Obama rally

#1 Post by ToLiveIsToFly » Mon Oct 20, 2008 1:03 pm

To be clear, I don't think this is the McCain campaign's fault anymore than I think vandalism of McCain supporters' property is the Obama campaign's fault.

There was some vandalism to Obama signs here over the weekend, and a notice about it was posted on the Dems website.

I asked the webmeister to remove it, because I agree with Fly -- neither campaign had anything to do with it. I even think I know who did it -- one of the neighborhood punks walking by "the scene of the crime" with a smirk on this face. He got the reaction he wanted. The only thing that would improve it for him would be to make the police blotter too.

The vandalism goes both ways.

What doesn't go both ways is the level of media reporting. McCain rallies are routinely portrayed as near-Klan meetings with Sarah Palin leading a lynch mob (even when the reporters are apparently the only ones to hear the derogatory comments), while any instances of bad conduct on the part of Obama supporters (most notably the infamous "Sarah Palin is a C***" tee shirts) goes unmentioned.

SSS, that's just not true. I know about the awful T-shirt from mainstream media reporting. I saw a couple of mainstream reports when I NewsGoogled Palin for the latest and another on a Denver televison station with the objectionable language blurred out.

Ditto that. I don't get into a lot of news these days aside from a few stolen moments of cable TV news. Pretty dern mainstream. And yet I also knew of the t-shirts. Totally despicable. There's been some garbage on both sides of the street, for sure. All it means is that this is a pretty heated race that a lot of people are passionate about, and some of those people are idiots.

Oh, c'mon now -- nasty t-shirts have been around a lot longer than Palin. Who among us Hillary Clinton supporters doesn't remember
this awful piece of work?

Do the dumbasses who slash tires really imagine that the only people attending rallies are there to support the candidate? There are people who go to protest. There are plenty who show up to scope out the opposition. And there are many who are just curious, or just want to see the president or the next president! I didn't go out to see Gerald Ford in '76 because I intended to vote for his re-election (and I didn't); I went to see him because he was about 20 feet from my house & I'd never seen a president in person before!

Then there's this guy. Who showed up at an Obama rally (but outside the secure area) openly wearing a loaded, holstered gun. Because he wanted to see what would happen (well, duh!) Yes, it's legal to carry a gun (unconcealed) most places in PA. And yes, of course he showed up hoping to "cause a ruckus" despite his statement to the contrary. BTW, I was at that rally & never knew a thing about it till the news next day -- some ruckus! :P

So, how do the dumbasses know whose tires to slash??? Do they look for the "wrong" bumper sticker? Heck, they could be damaging their own supporters' cars! Idiots.

Why do you conclude that the dumbasses who slash tires have any political affiliation or intent? Isn't it statistically more probable that the damage was done by misfit vandals who are too young to vote, but take pleasure in destroying other people's property anywhere and whenever they think they can get away with it?

Behaving badly and being an idiot are not limited to political intent. My tires were slashed a few years ago. It was not an election year.

Unfortunately, the couple of tire-slashing idiots I've dealt with in my life have been well over voting age. And they've all been female.

One got me a few years ago. She was ticked at my neighbor across the street. Over a man, who could guess! Who wasn't home. She didn't know what Candy's car looked like, only that it was a "little red car." She saw my maroon (not red!) Omni & went to town. Since we couldn't prove it was her, we couldn't do anything but eat the cost of the tires & put the word out (thru Candy & her brothers) that she f*cked up & got the wrong car & to leave it alone in the future. I seem to recall that Candy beat the snot out of her a little later, but that didn't help me pay for my tires. :( We were pretty happy when that family moved away.
