Shopping Trip

My mom and I just got back from a lovely outing. I had to go to see Mr. Dr. Vet for a pedicure -- no polish; I prefer the natural look -- and a small procedure that hurt, but I'd rather not talk about it. Anyway, I was a very brave girl, so my mom said she'd get me a pig's ear for a treat.

We drove straight to PetsMart, or PetSmart, as I prefer. This must be the most wonderful store in the entire world. I've never actually been inside any other store, but I don't care, because once you've seen perfection, nothing else can measure up. Anyway, I met a very nice springer spaniel, who was about Lizbit's size but with better manners; a very nice little boy about 4 or 5 years old, who had to reach up to pet my head; a kind man in the check-out line who understood that I was talking to him and talked back; and an outstanding check-out clerk who gave me a cookie for being such a good dog while waiting.

We had looked and looked, but couldn't find any single pig's ears so I could pick out my own. We did find a giant package of them, though, so my mom bought that for all the dogs to share, and she added a big bag of enormous rawhide bones, too. Lizbit chewed up her ear right away, but I'm stilll savoring mine, as I appreciate the piquant flavor of a fine delicacy. I want to make the pleasure last.

Miss Midnight has some tricks she plays with pig's ears. One is chewing it up and swallowing it too quickly and in one large piece, and then returning with interest. Another is chewing only slightly and then leaving it in the normal walking paths in the house. A third is a light chewing, then hiding it to fester and become wonderfully stinky.

She gets other treats now, but not pig's ears.

Mister Monster over to the left gets treats, too, but not often. He's on a diet to make sure he doesn't break that sofa he's on.

The humans come in handy, because they've got those plastic cards that pay for stuff. Also, you can make them feel useful by letting them carry things. You do have to make sure they don't run off, though. Left to her own devices, I don't know what kind of mischief my mom might find in the fish department.
