The card flipping lady on Catch 21 annoys me

Why does she get to see the card before everyone else?

She picks it up and looks at it, and then lets everyone else know.

she needs time to prepare her surprised reaction.

her robotic reading of the card is what gets me. "It's AY king!" instead of "it's uh king" is uncomfortable. If she paused a half second before the "it's AY" and "king" it would sound more natural.

But she is awfully pretty, and sweet too.

The reference to the "THe card flipping lady on Catch 21 " reminds me of "The fortune telling lady has even taken all her things inside" from Desolation Row.

I initially thought you were referencing 'Subterranean Homesick Blues' with the famous card-flipping rendition done in 'Don't Look Back' - but that isn't on 'Highway 61 Revisited' but 'Bringing It All Back Home' so I was also perplexed by the reference.
