Notes on College Parents Weekend in DC

- The Neweum is really cool. We actually spent the entire afternoon there, I'm usually only good for 2 hours in any museum.

- College kids, take heed. Empty the garbage before your parents come to your room. The Bud Light carton and the Korbel bottle detract from the decor.

- Good DC eateries: Nooshi on 19th (Noodle/sushi place), Whitlow's in Arlington (superattenuated diner), Ben's Chili Bowl on U (just go- trust me), Kramer's on Dupont Circle(bookstore with cafe in back, superb pies and cakes).

- Saw "W." (the movie, not the commander in chief). It felt like a high-budget SNL sketch, exept for Richard Dryfuss as Cheney. Beloved Son observed, "It would play as a comedy, if you didn't know the ending."

- Washington Capitals. Great arena (except that they ran out of food), so-so hockey team.
I am about 25% sure of this.

You got a college kid drinking Korbel? You need to cut the allowance - college kids should be drinking Andre if they need bubbly.

How about Southern Comfort and/or Sloe Gin?

Ah, to be underage and stupid again.

For a dinner party we decanted some good wine into a BFSH bottle to serve the guests.

The problem, then, is that such calls do not address an opposition audience so much as they signal virtue. They talk past those who need convincing. They ignore actual facts and counterargument. And they are irreparably smug.
