Suitguy is not bitter.
feels he represents the many educated and rational onlookers who believe that the hysterical denouncement of lay scepticism is both unwarranted and counter-productive
The problem, then, is that such calls do not address an opposition audience so much as they signal virtue. They talk past those who need convincing. They ignore actual facts and counterargument. And they are irreparably smug.

Re: Colin Powell endorses...
This is no surprise. Obama has been "cultivating" his support for months. I find it curious, though, that Powell chose to announce his support him 2 weeks before the election. From what I have read, Obama is the only one of the two that has shown Powell the "respect" he expected. Whether it was a black for black for support... that's anyone's guess. I don't think that it will help Obama any, though.

Obama used the same strategy during the primary season, rolling out key endorsements of super delegates on a regular schedule to get the press cycle for the day going in his favor. Powell has been in the bag for Obama for months, and he chose when to reveal it. Based on a couple of the daily tracking polls I saw, the Powell endorsement helped Obama have a good day in Sunday's polling, but yesterday's seems to have been much more normal.Sir_Galahad wrote:This is no surprise. Latest Rasmussen polls show McCain has retaken the lead in FL (a couple of others show that as well), and others have the state races tightening as well. Good rule of thumb is that the more worried Obama feels, the more of a media/Obama narrative there is about the inevitability of his election.

This I will completely agree with.silverscreenselect wrote:Good rule of thumb is that the more worried Obama feels, the more of a media/Obama narrative there is about the inevitability of his election.

Look for Chuck Hagel to chime in pretty soon, too.
The conventional wisdom normally is that endorsements don't matter much. I think that in this case they do, though.
They kind of make the people who talk about Obama supporters as naive kool-aid drinkers look silly. To suggest that Powell and some of the others are naive is just downright dumb.
If endorsements don't matter in this instance, I don't think that sss and the Clintons would still be so pissed at Richardson.
