so it's Phillies vs. Rays in the WS
I can't imagine that the FOX network is too happy about this, since (a) both teams are in the Eastern time zone, meaning that the West coast viewers will have to watch early and (b) neither team is in New York or Los Angeles. That's not to say that the ratings will be bad, but may not be as good as hoped.

You know, the only reason we went to this revenue sharing and luxury tax crap was to give my Brewers a World Series title. Where in the hell do the Devil R... oh, excuse me, RAYS get off pulling themselves out of the basement and into the World Series? I wouldn't even wish a crummy World Series matchup like this on PBS!
There will be major changes next year. First of all, I'm going to see if we can relocate the city of Milwaukee a bit further away from all those goats at Wrigley Field.....

Ah well, no timely hitting in Game 7. What can you do? Live by two-out runs, die by the lack of them. Good game, though, just what a Game 7 should be.
Mike Timlin shouldn't have been there at all, either the series or the season, for that matter. He was just filling space on the roster, and most of Red Sox Nation knew the extra inning game was a goner when Francona put him in.
The Red Sox won't offer Veritek enough money to avoid free agency, but as awful a batting year as he had, I'm not sure who'll offer him what he should get. Which team needs a guiding hand with young pitching?

All my Met fan friends hate the Philles.
Us Yankee fans are happy to see Boston go down, but now have Tampa Bay as a genuine team in the AL East for heaven only knows how long.
And A-Rod is probably wondering where he and Madonna are going New Years Eve.
Rays in 5.

I am about 25% sure of this.

Re: so it's Phillies vs. Rays in the WS
I think it's good to get some new teams in the World Series (Phillies haven't been since '93 and haven't won since 1980, and of course, the Rays have never been). And as someone who would like to see more economic parity in MLB, I'm thrilled that a team with a low payroll made it to the Series. I heard this morning that the Rays have the second lowest payroll in all of baseball.
And I think that the long layoff will hurt the Phillies like it hurt the Rockies last year and the Tigers the year before that. Rays in 6.

I believe that World Series games start at 8:37 Eastern no matter where they are played. They're already late enough on the easy coast - they can't afford to move them even later.earendel wrote:I can't imagine that the FOX network is too happy about this, since (a) both teams are in the Eastern time zone, meaning that the West coast viewers will have to watch early and (b) neither team is in New York or Los Angeles. There is real life, and then there is baseball (although I would love to see the MLB Players Association go away)...Jeemie wrote:Economic parity?!?!?!?!?danielh41 wrote:I think it's good to get some new teams in the World Series (Phillies haven't been since '93 and haven't won since 1980, and of course, the Rays have never been). congrats to both Tampa and Boston. That was a great series. seventh game was the only time in the playoffs I felt a twinge that Manny Ramirez might have made a difference. What would Jason Varitek be worth to another team? Age takes its toll on catchers, and .215 hitters who call a good game are not worth seven digits.

I should have listed baseball first and then real life, because baseball is much better than real life. Going to the ballpark is such a wonderful escape...Jeemie wrote:Them's fightin' words, mister!danielh41 wrote:There is real life, and then there is baseball...

IMO the absence of Mike Lowell made at least as much of a difference. At least Lowell actually is interested in the team and not just himself. And good luck to whichever team "wins" the Manny bidding.etaoin22 wrote:seventh game was the only time in the playoffs I felt a twinge that Manny Ramirez might have made a difference.
The Red Sox had serious problems hitting Rays pitching all year, the ALCS included. It showed. The Rays will be tough, and congrats to their management for the massive improvements over last year's team.

I predict Rays in 6. I also predict the TV ratings for the Series will come in somewhere below The Weather Channel.
There used to be a time when the World Series was an event that most people watched regardless of who was in it. I guess now only the Super Bowl and the Final Four are in that group.
