Bargain days!

#1 Post by mntetn » Mon Oct 20, 2008 8:03 am

Just over 3 years ago, in the runup to Hurricane Katrina, oil prices soared to a staggering $70 a barrel and gas at the pump accelerated to, then passed, a shocking 3.00/gallon (other areas may vary)

This last weekend, in the wake of oil prices free-falling toward $70 a barrel, gas prices plummeted to, then below, 3.00 per gallon (locally; again, your area may vary).

Personal note: just 4 days after I joyfully paid 2.85 in Kentucky, the price here came down to 2.89 (including Kroger where I can get 10-15 cents off that).

I just wish there was a way I could save the cheap gas for the winter when it will be $5 a gallon!

I've heard that gas won't really keep that long in those gas cans you use for your lawnmower.

Over the weekend, a couple of gas stations in Atlanta got in a price war and prices were briefly down to $1.99 a gallon (this was not a promotional gimmick by some sponsor, just an old fashioned price war). Considering our shortage about three weeks ago kept prices above the rest of the country, it's dropped here from $4.00 to $2.75 or less in three weeks.

It was $2.95 in town on Saturday. I'm sure it's less in cities.

$2.959 at the station across from work this morning (minus 5% for using their credit card). Maybe less by the time I leave, when I have to fill up in order to make it home.
I just ordered chicken and an egg from Amazon. I'll let you know.

Apparently the stations in Napa, CA can charge whatever they like.
It was still $3.50 for regular grade and diesel was well over $4.00/gallon. We filled up
just outside the Sacramento airport for $3.24 gallon.

I paid $2.79 in Virgnia the other day.

$3.09 was the lowest I have seen in these parts.
