Minor pet peeve- don't get political at Halloween parades

#1 Post by Jeemie » Sun Oct 19, 2008 3:05 pm

Our town's Halloween parade is one of the highlights of the year. Well-attended, lots of fun and candy for the kids. Sparkly, light-up toys. And, the parade is cool- lasts almost two hours with many creative floats and acts.

One thing I hate- floats with political folks on them passing out campaign literature.

This year, Obama supporters were passing out Obama stickers to the KIDS. And others....both Dem and GOP...have done similar things in the past at this parade. The kids go for candy, and all they get are stupid campaign stickers and pamphlets from these guys.

That stuff just really bothers me...just give the kids candy, and leave your campaigning at home for ONE event, for a change.

That's all I ask.

Total agreement here. I know: shocker.

I do have to admit, I got a little shot in.

The Obama float was that of a donkey roasting an elephant over a fire pit.

I called out to the guy "That doesn't change the fact that you're just a giant ass".

I know...poor form...I just couldn't resist.

Four years ago on Halloween night, I was passing out candy to the trick-or-treaters. A little boy dressed in a suit came to the door. I asked him who he was supposed to be. He said "I'm John Kerry, and I'm running for President." I looked to see if he had any brothers dressed up like Secret Service agents :D I gave him an extra piece of candy-I voted for Kerry.

I wonder how many Obamas and McCains I'll see this year.

Last weekend at the Placentia Heritage parade, there were some people walking up and down the parade route with "Yes on 8 - Protect Marriage" signs. In addition our local Republican Congressman had his people passing out signs for people to hold. Rather than riding in a car, as he usually does, he shook hands with people along the route. I wonder if he is worried about being re-elected.

Maddie is seriously thinking about going as Sarah Palin. She does an impeccable imitation of Tina Fey doing Palin.
