Just saw Slumdog Millionaire

#1 Post by frogman042 » Fri Oct 17, 2008 10:45 pm

I was traveling for work this week and didn't get back to Ausin until today and happened to notice that the Austin Film Festival started Thursday night and then I noticed late in the afternoon that there was going to be a showing Friday night of Slumdog Millionaire. So, off my wife and I went.

In a word 'Wow' - don't miss it. It was really great and as a special treat Danny Boyle, the director, was there to introduce the film and took a few questions after it. The audience loved it as well.

I don't want to spoil any of the plot but I have put into spoilers a bit on how the game was represented. I don't know if it actually reflects how the game is really played in India or if it was represented that way for the plot of the movie, but if you want to get a rundown on the game layout itself in terms of how it differs from the US version, feel free to expose the spoiler.

Rules in the movie version of WWTBAM:
The original 3 lifelines only - ATA, PAF and 50/50.
Top amount is 20 million rupees.
No milestone questions, miss a question, regardless of the amount, and you drop to 0 rupees.
It appears that they still use the fastest finger.
It appears that you get on the show by calling in at the apporpriate time - but it is not clear if there is a phone game or just taking callers who get through at the right moment.
The set looks very similar to the US one as well as the chairs and monitors.
The show airs live.

Looking forward to seeing this, Jay. Glad to see it got your thumbs-up. Is it drama, comedy, or a mixture?

Although there are some very funny moments, it is not a comedy, but a very intense drama.
Spoiler
Plus I was able to predict the final question.
