The Call That Never Came

#1 Post by themanintheseersuckersuit » Tue Oct 14, 2008 7:20 am

That kinda sounds like to start of a scary Halloween story.

Another Halloween YAY! Go for the treats!

On a related note, where's suitguy's Halloween show call??? If he doesn't get one, the other costumes must have been truly spectacular.
I started a new thread cause I didn't want to rain on Rafferty's parade. There was no Halloween call to me, I don't even know if they are having a Halloween week. I did hear of rumor of one. I'll be looking for Halloween promos.

I gave it my best shot, perhaps I was a bit over the top. It was a lot of fun dreaming about running the stack as a Flying Monkey and the kind of sensation that would have created. TPTB didn't share that dream.
Suitguy is not bitter.

feels he represents the many educated and rational onlookers who believe that the hysterical denouncement of lay scepticism is both unwarranted and counter-productive

The problem, then, is that such calls do not address an opposition audience so much as they signal virtue. They talk past those who need convincing. They ignore actual facts and counterargument. And they are irreparably smug.

Squirrels are the architects of forests, the planters of trees, nature's own acrobats and show a zest for life that can inspire us. Every day should be National Squirrel Appreciation Day!

Many of these (squirrel) migrations were probably caused by food shortages as well as habitat overcrowding. We solved that for them. We not only reduced their habitat, we reduced the whole species by about 90%. The least we can do now is share a little birdseed with them.

TPTB could see the MAWG beneath the costume.

I think it is more likely they canned the whole costume concept.

Otherwise it really doesn't make sense.

I emailed my contacts asking when they were going to tape the Halloween Week shows. I did not get a reply from any of them.

Sorry, Tmitsss, it's their loss. I'm optimistic and thinking
you could still get a call for the regular show. Why not??

I'm very sorry that they aren't doing a Halloween show this year and including you in their taping schedule.

I join you in that fantasy, but my application was so "all in" for Halloween week that they don't even know what I look like. (NTTIAWWT)

Sorry Tmitsss, I definitely feel your pain about not getting the call. :? I definitely would have watched that episode.

I don't know if it's been brought up, but I had the thought that there may be a copyright issue with tmitsss's costume. Turner Broadcasting, or whoever it is that owns the copyright to the "Wizard of Oz" movie these days, may require payment for its broadcast use. If so, 'BAM's lawyers may have realized this too late to warn auditioners about it.

If there is a Halloween show, I'll be interested to see if the costumes are all generic or otherwise uncopyrightable characters.
I just ordered chicken and an egg from Amazon. I'll let you know.

The copyright issue did cross my mind. The flying monkey costumes for sale on the web don't seem to be licensed. The one costume I heard a rumor about was a Star Trek character.

How much might such a licensing fee be, for an incidental appearance in a half-hour game show?

I'm thinking that tmitsss would be quite willing to pay it!

Yeah, but just think, if some people have to pay for every HK invocation...

Good thinking! Dave needs to hack into the HK interface and have HK holding out her hand each time someone logs onto the Bored with that background.....

I went to a taping once, and the contestant had a tie with a cartoon character on it (I think it was a Looney Tunes character). They started taping the show, and then during the initial banter before the game started they stopped tape. They made him take off his tie and put another tie on, and then they started taping all over again.

I think they might have hit on something. Speaking of ties, I had to sign a release so that they could show my episode while wearing the tie my daughter designed when she was 5 - and it had no characters on it except some stick figures (that is virtually impossible to see on the tape).
