Thanksgiving dinner near-disaster

#1 Post by a1mamacat » Mon Oct 13, 2008 6:46 pm

Coulda been worse.

My brother and his family arrived around 5:15 pm. We had drinks, and were settling in, when the power went out. We had just taken the turkey out, the veggies were cooked, the only thing not done was the gravy.

We hauled out the gas BBQ, turned on the side element, and made gravy :P

Lots of candles and we had a wonderful dinner.

Turns out that the entire south end of Vancouver Island had gone out, a main transformer had blown. Just as we were finishing up the pies, the lights came back on.

All in all, it was probably one of the best family dinners in a long time. The three kids, Big J and my two nieces butled and made sure that Grandma didn't do any work.

Happy Thanksgiving late! Dang these years fly by!
Sounds like you made the best of a potentially bad situation.
The kids sound like great kids. Hugs to them from me for a job well done.

Near disasters (or even complete disasters) usually make the most indelible memories. Sometimes the latter just require some time. Happy Thanksgiving!
