#1 Post by Bob Juch » Thu Oct 09, 2008 10:57 am

At a Hess station in Elizabeth, NJ last night.

Can anyone here beat that?

It's finally dropped into the $3.30's in the gas-gouged Metro East of STL, but that's just a tad less than what I was paying for gas in Kansas City just 4 days after Ike hit last month....

There have been reports of gas under $3.00 on the MO side of the river, but I'd guess the going rate over there's probably still in the low $3's....

I saw a dude changing the numbers to $2-something last night here in Land O'Cleves.

I've seen $2.97 here in Houston this week.

I've heard reports of $2.85 in the suburbs.

It's amazing how excited most people get about saving six cents at the gas pump at the same time they're losing six figures from their life savings and 401Ks.

My local 7-11 was recently selling gas for $2.77. Three bucks is pretty common around here. I'd rather pay ten bucks a gallon and see the stock market back where it was a few months ago.

Is that supposed to be a joke? I have never even been in a Prius. I have stated here that I drive a 2000 Mazda pickup. It's the only vehicle I've owned for more than eight years.

It's about $2.90 here. But, at today's price for a barrel of oil, it should be about $1.75.

You're all very lucky, it's between $3.25 and $3.60 most places around me. The lowest I've seen is at BJ's for $3.22.

At the risk of sounding like a wet blanket (or a Prius owner :D ) I don't think cheap gas is such a good idea. People finally were beginning to realize the reality of being dependent upon foreign oil and now that prices are going back down, I believe the lesson will be short-lived.

Supply and demand! People are driving less so the prices come down. The alternative would be for the governments to tax it more or for higher windfall profits.

I know several BBs drive them. I know KT does and I believe Ear does. I simply thought Ed was one of them.

I wasn't making fun of them or people who drive them. I simply though Ed was driving a car that got 45 mpg and that was why he didn't care if gas was $10/gal.

I don't know why he took offense....if he did. Seemed like he did. But what do I know? I'm a nut.

I paid $3.43 per gallon at an Arco station, using Southern California's slowest pump.

I take offense at you saying I took offense. I don't know what gave you that impression. I was merely correcting your misstatement about what I drive. I thought maybe you were making a joke.

I'll amend my statement about not caring if gas is $10/gallon. Heck, I wouldn't mind paying $100/gallon if I still had the money I've lost in the stock market recently. I've driven about 3000 miles in the past year. At 20 mpg, that's about 150 gallons of gas. Worst case, that's about 600 bucks, with gas @ $4/gallon. If gas went to $100/gallon, that's still only $15,000 per year, and I've lost way more than that in the stock market. Most other American families have lost more than that as well, but all they seem to care about is a few cents per gallon at the gas pump. It's crazy.

It makes sense to me. I don't care too much where the stock market is today and my retirement accounts remain fully invested in stock mutual funds. I care where the stock market will be in twenty years, when I'll want the money I've got there. On the other hand, I have to pay the price of gas today (well, in the next week or two, when I next refill my Prius). --Bob

Chosing which gas station we go to may be the only control we have.

I drove a couple, only a couple, of miles to where my local grocery store has a gas station. The more local one I go to doesn't have gas pumps. They offer cents off per gallon based on $ spent since you last filled up at their pumps.

It is the store I do all of my shopping at (those in the area know Stop and Shop).

To me it is almost free gas. I do all of my shopping there anyway. Didn't change what I do. Other than drive a couple of mile out of way to get gas today.

Final price per gallon.....$2.59.

I think I won!

But I am not looking at my 401K right now.

It would only scare me.

Wow, and here I was all jazzed when I saw it at 3.29 yesterday. Well, not really jazzed, because it's gone down 20 cents a gallon since I filled up last Tuesday.

I don't have any money to lose in the stock market, so I'll take my meager couple bucks of saving where I can and be happy. I don't think that's so crazy.

To clarify, the discount is based on the dollars spent at the grocery store over time. The more you spent, the greater the discount.

We hadn't filled up there for awhile.

Did I mention my son eats a little?

the lowest I saw today was $3.24, and I drove to Ohio {which you can see from Pa(it is high in the middle and round on both ends)}.

I hear OPEC called an emergency meeting to see what they can do to raise prices.
