"An American Carol" movie review
Kinda.
I don't want to give it away but I encourage everyone to go see it. Not because it's particularly funny, but to just 'stick it' to Michael Moore and the uber-left. I'm hoping this thing makes a gagillion bucks to ram it down Moore's throat.
Made by the same guy that did "Airplane!" it's not as funny or witty. It's more obvious and slapstick, but there are some wickedly accurate imitations of losers and there are a few good lines.
It uses the premise from "A Christmas Carol" to educate the Michael Moore character on why he's such a schmuck.
There were also a couple of lines that really resonated. "We're not the bad guys," and "This is a war" in particular.
Two scenes made me feel especially proud - one in Afghanistan with a group of Army dudes in battle gear taking communion from a chaplain when incoming starts and they all man up and the ending with a line of soldiers through our history.
Please go see it and help stick it to the lunatic left (note, not the normal left or Democrats with a clue, but the ultra-crazies - 9/11 was an inside job, it's our fault for everything crowd).

Actually, I stand corrected.
"Marley's Ghost" was personified by JFK telling the MM character he took the wrong part out his Inaugerial Address. That the US would 'bear any burden' was meant to be we'd fight for what we thought was right.
Still, having JFK character portray you ain't too shabby either!
And I bet TPTB would like him even better!

"An American Carol" grossed $3.8 million in its opening weekend. That's an average of $2,325 for each of the 1,639 theaters in which it plays. Compare that to the $24 million from only 868 theaters that "Fahrenheit 9/11" made on its opening weekend four years, it appears as though the American people will not "stick it to the lunatic left".

What I find really funny, though not in a ha-ha manner necessarily, is the very-short-list of very-right-wing big name actors in the film. I mean, hey, actors will take jobs playing characters they politically disagree with because, uh, its called "acting". But the director on this one nevertheless hedged their bets with political sympaticos. Gee, I wish the director doing the next in-depth profile of Hitler would go for that; it would make such projects, of which there have been way too many for my taste, that much harder to cast. I think.
I heard an interview with the director which got defrayed by static as I drove farther & farther away from the station. There was a bit of verbal interplay wherein the director got snarly about the word "surely" which I hope was all-in-pun, considering the "Airplane" legacy. Or "Naked Gun" legacy. Wherever "surely/Shirley" comes from. I missed the part, given in the intro, where the director's kids are supposedly made to feel bad at school for their parent's politics. That would be a low blow, if true.

Ah, but "Fahrenheit 911" was a 'documentary.'*NellyLunatic1980 wrote:"An American Carol" grossed $3.8 million in its opening weekend. * You had to see the movie to catch the humor.

Re: "An American Carol" movie review
This is a bad movie, not because of its politics, but because it's simply not very funny and often in poor taste. Poor taste when it's funny is hilarious; just look at Monty Python. Poor taste when it's not funny can be grating.
This movie's idea of humor is Leslie Nielsen hitting a woman in the head with a Frisbee, one Arab terrorist flunky bashing another one's head into a wall (which happens about twenty times during the movie) or a kid on crutches accidentally being knocked down by the Michael Moore character (that happens three times in the movie). The political jokes were far too often preachy rather than funny.
Conseratives can be funny. Rush Limbaugh has a wicked sense of humor as evidenced by some of the spoofs he has run over the years. Usually however, they mistake cutting people and institutions down with humor. That's why there's never really been good right wing sketch humor (Fox put on a show a few months back and it was an absolute disaster).
Right wingers can and do write good thrillers. They may make a political point but they keep it within the bounds of the plot and the action. When liberals write thrillers, they tend to be talky and more concerned with scoring political points than having an entertaining plot.
