Standings through Game 20, September 28

For a portion of the month it looked like Mac might pull a Secretariat at the Belmont but, with one more game to go, it's a real horse race! With 400 points in the final game, the top four are still in contention to win it all. Tbone missed out on some bank by not realizing he needed to put down the state capitals, but he's still in the thick of it to make it into the money.

By the way (and I've planned this since the beginning of game) there are going to be some extra special bonus points handed out after the final game as well that could shake up things even further down the line than that! So without scoring the final game OR the bonus points yet, I'm as much in the dark as anybody about how the final standings will look. So make sure to tune in for the final scores tomorrow morning!

Final game standings, but there is still the extra special Bonus Points coming up. I did those before I did the totals, so I still don't know where everybody stands (or even who won) until I redo the equation to add in bonus points and redo the custom sort!

Extra Special Bonus Points

As most of you know, I put a value on the people who answer day in and day out, whether they're going to have a good score or a crappy one. It's easy to breeze in on a day where you know every single answer (no matter the game, QOD, LS, Timeline, whatever) and get a dazzling score, but it takes fortitude and not a little bit of courage to answer on a day when you don't know jack and have a low score hanging out there for everyone to enjoy. That's one of the reasons that I've always given participation points.

I tried to address this in my last LS (I think) game and give credit for playing the game, good or bad, but my formula didn't accomplish anything. So, this time I decided to just give flat out points. Since a new game gathers attention, but attention wanes when the novelty wears off, I did a tiered system. Five points per day for the first week, ten points for the second, fifteen for the third, 25 for the fourth and 50 for the finale. Since September started on a Monday, it worked out neatly.

FINAL TIMELINE STANDINGS FOR SEPTEMBER

The bonus points changed things a bit down the line, but the Top Eleven stayed the same! Which stands to reason because, if you're among the top scorers by the end of the month, you've generally played most or all of the games.

Mac ends up taking it but not by much! Mel and PSM ended up making him earn it. Too bad Nelly couldn't have played the final game, that would have made the Top Five even tighter.

Thanks for the time and effort to do Timeline. I learned some stuff and found out how much stuff I don't know. Did I just sleep through all those history classes, or am I like Natalie and memorize dates for the test and immediately forget them when I leave the classroom?

Anyway, thanks for the hard work. I know it takes time and effort to even come up with the questions, much less all the work to score it!

That would be me on the game with countries gaining their independence. I took one look at it and ran.

Thanks for the most excellent Timeline games this month! Sorry I had to sit out a couple games that made me question my own stupidity, but most of the games were fun to unravel....

Just let me know when you decide to bring back Bandstand so I can get the promos ready......

And hurricanes (plural). Didn't seem fair to have to miss this game of all of the recent bored games but by the time I got back and started to get back on something approaching a regular schedule the month was about done.

Next time take pity on me and try to choose a month not during hurricane season to come out of retirement for one more farewell tour (you and Babs, eh?) if possible!

Oh, and not month when I am off in some distant dusty corner of the world where the only link to the technological world is a cell phone on the seemingly exponentially growing system of cell towers encircling the globe, including even the most distant dusty corners.

Hmm, come to think of it might prove difficult to find a time when at least one of those things isn't happening...
