visiting with David Lubar - my new favorite kid's author

#1 Post by lilyvonschtupp26 » Tue Sep 30, 2008 9:43 am

I say new favorite because David Lubar is coming to our school next Tuesday and he has a deliciously twisted sense of humor. If you have kids 4th grade through 8th grade, try and look for some of his at the library. One of his books, Punished is about a kid who's naughty in the library and a mystery man places a curse on him that he can only speak in puns. In order to remove the curse, he has to find palindromes and oxymorons. It's hysterical to find a clever word use in a kid's books.

When I wrote and asked him what he needed for his presentation, he said all he needs is a screen and projector. If we're lacking a screen, he could stack up kids wearing white t-shirts. . . He said he's had no fatalities during his visit, but he's not vouching for what happens after he leaves.

like I said, a quirky sense of humor. I'll give you an update after the visit. He's generously staying all day to work on short story writing skills.

He sounds like a nice guy.

I haven't heard about him, but I will look for his books for Emma.

This is no mystery man.......It's frogman!

PSM -

I especially liked that he would separately with Special Ed. students who would be uncomfortable meeting with a large group. We arranged for a small group meeting in a quiet room to accommodate them. Very thoughtful.

If you get the "weenie" short story books for Emma, read the Predator one from Curse of the Campfire Weenies. very clever, very good twist at the end...

I was a little startled when I first read the topic to learn that you had a favorite kid, new or old.

I've got one (who turned 9 today -- wow, he's halfway to legal adulthood!), but I've got an excuse. --Bob

I just checked out his website. He's VERY funny. I need to check out his books. I mean, he's really FUNNY. And he writes good, too.

Thanks for the heads up!
Well, then

He is REALLY funny.

I sent his "how to make beer" to two young friends who make beer.

Properly attributed, of course.
