Answers and Points Timeline, Game 20 Weekend September 26-28

#1 Post by Here's Fanny! » Fri Sep 26, 2008 8:27 am

Today's Timeline is a new one for the month, the always popular Double Timeline Chain! I've given you a state nickname, with a number in parenthesis. You supply the year admitted into the Union, the name of the state and the state capital. The number in parenthesis is the number of years until the next state in the game (I didn't go exact years by the month and day, just years in general).

Scoring: Exact year - 10
Close (+/- 2) - 5
Ballpark (+/- 4) - 3
Correct decade - 1
State name - 10
Capital - 5
Chain bonus (correct state order, whether you have the years right or not) - 25

Yes, that's right (if I'm right), 400 possible points today! So, how much attention were you paying when you started collecting all your state quarters a few years ago? I guess we'll find out.

I know 3 years for sure (Delaware, Colorado, Alaska)... so I'll have to guess the other years based on the known years.

The First State (2) - Delaware, Dover, 1787
The Tarheel State (7) - North Carolina, Raleigh, 1789
The Volunteer State (16) - Tennessee, Nashville, 1796
The Prairie State (1) - Illinois, Springfield, 1812
The Pelican State (6) - Louisiana, Baton Rouge, 1813
The Yellowhammer State (18 ) - Alabama, Montgomery, 1819
The Sunshine State (14) - Florida, Tallahassee, 1837
The Great Lakes State (8 ) - Michigan, Lansing, 1851
The Beaver State (4) - Oregon, Salem, 1859
The Mountain State (13) - West Virginia, Charleston, 1863
The Centennial State (13) - Colorado, Denver, 1876
The Peace Garden State (7) - North Dakota, Bismarck, 1889
The Beehive State (16) - Utah, Salt Lake City, 1896
The Land of Enchantment (47) - New Mexico, Santa Fe, 1912
The Last Frontier (0) - Alaska, Juneau, 1959

Year Chain

Everybody did pretty well on the first three and the last two. Just like the National Anthem and the Apostle's Creed, we start out well and finish strong, it's just in the middle where things get a little fuzzy.

Points

Mel gets the day's only perfect score, as well as the only chain bonus. I think it might have helped people had they put the answer chain in order like Nelly and PSM did to aid with the year clues. I didn't think to suggest that because I thought the chain part was clear. Nelly and PSM, is it scary to think that your minds work like mine does? Ha!

This one created the most problems. Doesn't everybody immediately think "Illinois" when they hear the word "prairie"? Ha! Can 'somebody' explain this to us?
What, you mean people don't immediately think of prairies when they think of the Great State of Illinois?

For the record, I only remember this from our Illinois history test we had to pass in high school. I never hear Illinois referred to as anything other than The Land of Lincoln.... which is why his mug's been on my license plate for the past 7 years....
