A Russian lady missed the first question, which was about Lenin's Tomb. I assume she didn't understand the question. Would have been funny if it wasn't so sad.

Give her some credit, she was a returing contestant and she was going for 1000 not 100...that poor women, it most certainly was not funny

Oh, sorry, I thought it was the $100 question (I should have known it was too difficult for that). I'm not saying it was funny but it was ironic. I'd never laugh at a contestant.

She was the only person in this coming week's shows who I didn't meet in the green room. I saw her the day before when I was in the audience, but since she was a returning player, she was not in the green room as the rest of this week's contestants were. I'm a little exicited about seeing the episodes this week since everyone else I've met but I'm clueless to how all but 2 did. As has already been commented on, the on-deck person sits on a bench watching the previous person, and in order to get ready you get to see the end of the person before that person - so that is the sum total of my knowledge on how anyone did this week.

Easy mistake to make I suppose...I wonder if she would have answered incorrectly if there was no timer, she would have had more time to think about whether or not she really knew it or not and then maybe use a life line..hmmm...

Today's show had some new sound effects, or possibly sound effects that I hadn't noticed before. There was a simulated clock ticking noise while the timer ran down on all of the questions (including while Meredith was reading the choices). For the first five questions in the stack, the sound effect went TICK, TICK, TICK, once per second. For the second tier of questions, the sound effect went twice as fast, with a TICK-TOCK, TICK-TOCK, TICK- TOCK each second. I don't know if the sound effect will change for the upper tier of questions.

Is this new, or was I just unobservant for the first two weeks?

I also noticed that the $1,000,000 question in the current stack is about "Brainiacs." Does that mean KJ is the million dollar answer? We'll probably never know.

Also, the Expert on today's show is Sam Greenfeld, who apparently won $250K on the show. Anyone remember him or the questions in his stack?

I think the clock was ticking the last 2 weeks. As you said, you probably just didn't notice. Remember how Eddie Timanus knew that each level had a different background sound? I don't think any of us sighted people ever noticed that.

I have no idea who the expert is this week.

He won $100k, not $250k. His original air dates were 9 and 10 November 2006 (early season 5).

Winning 100,000 dollars is very impressive but does it really qualify someone as an expert? I mean, Ogi won 500,000 now that takes genius, 100,000 you could get their by chance or by judicious life line usage.

Actually, there's another possible explanation. I missed the local broadcast of WWTBAM today, so I went online and found that it airs in Denver at 3:00 MDT, and I used my laptop to connect to a friend's Slingbox in Louisville, Colorado to watch today's episode. Since today was the first time I heard the ticking clock, I can only assume that the speakers on my laptop produce the clicking noises more clearly than the speakers on my TV do.

During one of the breaks, there was a promo for upcoming "Ask an Expert" guests, including Nancy Christy. I didn't catch the other names. I think one was a former WWTBAM contestant and one was a correspondent on one of the daily celebrity gossip TV shows.

Saw the same promo in LA. Nancy was the only former WWTBAM contestant featured.

Also, there weren't any new music cues during this show. Must have been your speakers.

I was merely pointing out the arbitrary and subjective qualifications for the "expert".

Now that I reread my post again, I guess I can see how it might of sounded like I was dissing 100,000 dollar winners. But I didn't mean it that way, I marvel at the people who can make it that far. I suppose I was wondering where exactly do they draw the line when they pick among former contestants. Maybe I was just surprised that there was an expert who I never heard of before, lol

Here's an article about expert Sam Greenfeld, which refreshed my memory on who he is and sheds light on why he might have been selected by TPTB as an expert before so many bigger money winners. He's an NYC radio talk show host/comedian.

I think Bob was a bit hard on Shade. Shade has re-thought what he said and was kind enough to say so, but I still Bob was harsh.

Yeah.

It is a legitimate question: What are the qualifications for an expert? If viewers see that TPTB are selecting previous winners, one might expect to see the biggest winners, first. $100K is a ways down the list. But TPTB have other factors they're considering.

I'm still waiting to see Kevin Smith, SyndieBAM's first millionaire, show up as an expert. But I have strong suspicions that will never happen.
