My horribly depressing birthday weekend (sort of on topic)

#1 Post by clem21 » Sat Sep 20, 2008 6:52 pm

So I got the call from BAM on Friday telling me I was picked to be a contestant. As you can imagine I was literally jumping for joy as we went through the eligibility questions. And then the nice fellow on the phone told me my tape date was Tuesday Oct. 14th.
Uh Oh.
You see October 14th is the first day of the Jewish holiday Succoth, and the laws of Succoth for an orthodox Jew (such as myself) are equivalent in essentials to the Sabbath. I cannot tape on Oct. 14th.
I explained this to the nice fellow on the phone and after checking with the legal dept. he informed me that unfortunately this was the only taping date they were filling and I'd have to go back into the contestant pool. Ugh.
I pleaded a bit but it was hopeless. I understand where TPTB are coming from but still. This really sucks. A very happy birthday to me.
Now pardon me while I go out to get a half-gallon of ice cream which I will proceed to consume in 10 minutes

I am sorry to hear this. But I would be willing to bet that they will call you for another taping. Enjoy the ice cream.
I believe in the usefulness of useless information.

Ouch! I hope your fidelity to your orthodoxy is rewarded by TPTB. --Bob

Well that sucks! Suffern' Succoth.

Belated birthday wishes!

I agree that you'll probably be called again. If anything, I bet God is proud of you for doing the right thing :) Now the APs need to do the right thing and call you.

A tip of my hat to you for your integrity and being firm in your religious observations.

I look forward to seeing you in the hot seat when you get the call in a few weeks.

The good news is you have one less thing to atone for ;-)

I would remain confident that they will call you back. Are you within driving distance - if so it might even be a last minute thing. Worse comes to worse I would think it would be for next season if they have filled their slots for this one. There was a fellow from Buffalo (Tonawanda I believe) NY who missed the call and missed the 24 hour window - and ended up being back in the pool. So the fact that they want you should be considered a great B'day present - I look forward to your post regarding a second call.
