My car insurance premium is due October 9. I got the email reminder last week. I haven't gotten around to paying it but I will before I go out of town next week.
So today I get an email that starts like this:
We hope you and your family are safe after the recent weather events created by Hurricane Ike.
To give you time to recover, Progressive won't cancel or non-renew your insurance policy if you're unable to pay your premium from now until September 19, 2008, unless you request it.
Wow! Out of the bigness of their heart they are giving me until later today to pay my premium.
And it wasn't just a typo. They repeat that the grace period lasts up to September 19, 2008 four more times in the complete email.
Not to mention the fact that they are sending out an email to people who have lost their electricity in a hurricane.
No matter where you go, there you are.

I think it is a typo, but I could be wrong about that.
I know after Katrina, allowances were made for late payments. Now the email notice is a different story. Hopefully they gave the same notice in other ways as well, although if people are displaced, they may actually get an email before they get their regular mail.

AJ- you should forward this email to your local television station. Do they have a reporter working the consumer affairs beat? They love this sort of stuff ...

Progressive is one of the worst insurance companies. The only thing that's progressive about them is their premiums.

Progressive does fine for me. I send them checks and never make a claim.
It's a system that works well for both of us.
