Everybody Hates Jose Guillen....

#1 Post by littlebeast13 » Wed Sep 17, 2008 10:00 pm

Well, not me....

And not just because he has been on my BBBL team this year and (sometimes) doing well....

It's because he threw me a ball!

Seattle third baseman, and soon to be LB favorite Matt Tuiasosopa popped up to Guillen to end their half of the fourth inning tonight. Guillen caught the ball only about 20 feet in front of me (I was in the same front row seat I had last night), and he very kindly tossed it up to me and I managed to not drop the ball to bring in my second all-time actual game souvenir.....

Also, Ichiro Suzuki made history tonight by collecting his 200th hit of the season, making him only the second player ever (The other, Wee Willie Keeler) to have 8 straight seasons of 200+ hits. What little crowd there was at the ballpark gave him a standing ovation after they booed the safe call at first, as he beat out an infield hit....

The Royals have now won 6 games in a row. They do surprisingly well when I'm in town.

The Cardinals on the other hand are doing what they have done well the last 3 Septembers, go on a long losing streak.....

Will this souvenir make it into the evilsquirrel self portrait?

I almost missed this!

WooHoo Lb!

I guess it isn't the same as catching a homerun, but you got yourself a game ball!

Congrats on the game ball. And yes, the world does dump on José.

Starter Gil Meche is a favorite of mine, noting that in his Lafayette Acadian background he would be Gilbert (jeelbair) Meche, but with the baseballnickname Gil, he reminds us of the epic of Gilgamesh.

And of Philip Roth's "THe Great American Novel" dealing with the suppressed story of a third major league, in which pitched Gil Gamesh, the pitcher who actually tried to kill the umpire. I used to have paperbacks of a lot of the Roth oeuvre, and regrettably, never made it through one yet. Never found out what Portnoy was complaining about, why the guy was turned into a human breast, if Goodbye Columbus the movie was close to Goodbye Columbus the book, ans so on.

So far as I know, Philip Roth does not go to KC Royal games, nevertheless.
