This cnn online 'headline' annoys me:

Forecasters warn Ike may bring "certain death"

MAY bring CERTAIN death?

Those wacky forecasters sure like to hedge their bets.

Not to make light of the storm though - really, stay safe.

Here in Fort Worth I drive a 12 mile stretch of I-20 coming to work each morning. I saw 3 separate evacuee stations complete with all the emergency vehicles, etc. It was chilling. And really brought home the reality of what is happening now to so many people.

Prayers and vibes to all who might be in harm's way.

BFF's son's school in Austin is closed today, because it's being used as one of the evacuation centers. Of course, they didn't send the e-mail saying it was closed until 5:30 this morning, so BFF got up, got him ready and drove him there anyway.
I just ordered chicken and an egg from Amazon. I'll let you know.

There will be death. There are idiots riding the storm out on Galveston. The storm is still 200 miles away and the water is already coming up over the seawall. All the beach homes in Galveston will be washed away. Glad I got to see them about a week ago. It looked so nice.

Some idiots are riding the storm out in their boats on Clear Lake.


The current track has moved back closer to my house. We are still on the 'clean' side. BBkings neighborhood is now almost a bullseye. I don't have many trees and not mature trees in my neighborhood as up until 10 years ago it was an abandoned rice field. BBking has lots of trees. She will have a mess to clean up.

That line is direct from the National Huuricane center - they are predicting a 20 ft surge which WILL put all of Galveston under water - unless you are in a third floor or higher - you will be under water. And that assume the floors below remain intact.

My s-i-l lives in Friendswood (between Houston and Galveston) - the projected storm track goes right up I-45 - about 3 miles from their house.

Last we spoke to her she was on her way west - not sure where they plan to stop. Their house is boarded up - and there are lots of trees in Friendswood.

This looks like Isaac's storm II.

I'm with seersuckerman and hoping it doesn't live up to the hype. I spoke with Beebs earlier and she promised to check back in as soon as she can.

Gas prices are already up here. They were busy getting the prices changed all day. :oops:

Ouch! I heard about early let out times but not about closures for the day. It was all over the radio last night about the early closures. In addition they postponed the UT football game. The general concensus here in Austin is to try to keep the roads clear for the evacuees and not so much for really bad weather, although high winds are predicted for tonight and lots of rain for tomorrow.

Echoing the sentiment that I really hope it wont be as bad as feared.

This does not look good at all. I heard that there is the possibility that Galveston might be completely submerged by the time Ike leaves. I don't know if that's a stretch or not but I hope that is not the case.

My prayers to those in that area and in the path. Let's hope the reality does not live up to the hype.

They're saying Galveston will be submerged before Ike gets there. Sounds like 1900 all over again. :(
