Testing my new avatar

#1 Post by JBillyGirl » Thu Sep 11, 2008 10:58 am

My new avatar is a picture from my New Zealand trip a while back, taken when we visited the incredible glow worm caves at Waitomo. There was a nearby watering hole called the Long Black Cafe, which was not only a stop for coffee but also a jumping-off point for water-based adventure-type activities that Kiwis love so much. Anyway, we saw this large Gandalf statue there encircled in a "Ring"-like inner tube (as my mom said, "one inner tube to rule them all..."), and we couldn't resist taking pictures.

I may not use this avatar for long, but while I love my previous pic of 5-day-old Jackson, I think it's time to give her a rest.

That's a very cool picture.

Speaking of New Zealand, I will be having a family from New Zealand over to my house for Thanksgiving. Jeff's younger brother is bringing them. Emma is happy because the family includes a toddler.

I have some avatars you can borrow.
I believe in the usefulness of useless information.

Fantastic! New Zealand has lovely people. Try making Pavlova for dessert to make them feel at home -- it's quite yummy!

We raved about it in Australia and prevailed upon the chef at one place to give us the recipe. He did, but I knew as soon as I saw it that I would never make it until I retire, or later...

I've never tried making it myself, so I can imagine it's not easy. However, I found this highly rated recipe that purports to be "easy":

A specialty food shop near me makes pavlova shells (the hardest part) that you can put your own fruit and such on later. There might be other stores that do that, but they could be hard to find.
