FWIW Palin continues to use her "thanks but no thanks" line, even after all the foofraw surrounding it. In rallies in Lebanon, OH, and Lancaster, PA she continued "on message" with this statement.
"Elen sila lumenn omentielvo...A star shines on the hour of our meeting."

"And we put the Governor's plane on e-bay."

True. Sold it on e-bay? Not so much...

Apparently McCain doesn't understand the difference because he has been claiming that Palin sold the plane on eBay. Not a lie, just a mistake.

I'm not the type to use foul language (because I am soft and genteel that way) but this is the biggest crock of shit ever written on this bored.

It was SOP before Palin was elected to put surplus state property on eBay. It turned out trying to auction the plane was a mistake as the state had to make a couple more payments on it while waiting for an adequate bid - none ever came in. The state then had to sell it through a broker at a loss of $600,000.

And? The plane was a waste of money. They got rid of it. I'm trying to see the problem here. I bet you think we should get out of Iraq, in part because of it costing so much.

I don't think anyone objects to the plane being sold. Some people may object to the claim that the plane was "sold" on eBay when in fact it wasn't. I think McCain just made an honest mistake.

The point of the matter is- previous governors weren't selling the plane- they were keeping it.

She sold the plane (however she did it), but even at a loss, Alaska will save the maintenance and oeprating costs (with fuel prices, I'm guessing those are substantial).

See what happens when you focus on the wrong things? The thing to focus on was she got rid of the plane...not how she did it.

Seeing how Palin didn't move into the governor's mansion and was flying with her family back and forth between Anchorage and Juneau, I have to wonder if the state actually did save money.

Apparently the state did save money: quoting from the Washington Post story on this very issue"

Palin has spent far less on travel than her predecessor, former Gov. Frank Murkowski, who spent $463,000 on travel in 2006. Palin spent $93,000 last year, records show.

Of course, the fact that she cut expenses by over 75% does not make it into the headline. You can find the whole story at http://tinyurl.com/6ahvyx

Edited to add: The transportation home is immaterial, as far as I am concerned.

If Sarah Palin paid it herself, it would still be coming from the taxpayers, who pay her salary. Ditto Joe Biden on AMTRAK.

The public pays their salaries. How else would they pay for things?
Melly-

I'm not certain I understand what you mean by this. Do you mind adding a bit more of your thoughts on this, just for clarity? Specifically, I'm curious about the last two sentences.
