Anybody want to buy some cookie dough?

#1 Post by Rexer25 » Tue Sep 09, 2008 6:43 am

School fund raiser time (sigh).

We got chocolate chunk, peanut butter, snickerdoodle, oatmeal raisin, M&M cookies, white chunk macadamia nut, peanut butter cup and choclate chunk pecan. Makes your mouth water, don't it?

I hate fund raisers.
Enough already. It's my fault! Get over it!

That'll be $10, please.

Cookie dough? You mean I'd have to bake them myself?

No, thanks!

You don't have to bake cookie dough, you know. Sometimes it's best straight out of the package....

How do you keep it refrigerated?

It comes frozen. I guess I should have typed that whole thing in sarcafont. I don't intend to ship any packages of frozen cookie dough.

But at least the cookie dough is something I can use. Better than those catalogue like fundraisers we got for awhile.

Son1111 had to sell discount cards for the football team. A pretty good deal and easy sales job.

Card is good for a year, costs $10 and gives discounsts to Subway, Dunkin Donuts, McD's, BurgerKing and a bunch of local places.

Pretty easy to get your money back.

He got 15 and had 12 sold in about 1/2 hour to the neighbors.

The girls are selling those, too. Good at the local franchises only. Only problem is one of the cards is good for discounts at Bennigan's.

A friend's son was selling coupon books for the soccer team. Nearly all the coupons were BOGOs--not much use to me when I normally eat alone.

Then he ended up not being picked for the team anyway! Problem solved...

My wife gets irritated with me because I like eating cookie dough while she's trying to bake cookies. So I may want some...

I hate them too.

I got a "buy out donation " option for marching band and I just paid it, rather than having Emma sell $160 worth of candy. It's a donation, so I can write it off. Emma is still selling magazines for the school, but I will just renew my subscriptions through her.

If the thespians do well enough selling Mall Shopping Night Tickets, then Maddie won't have to sell wrapping paper. It will be the first time in ten years that I haven't had to buy giftwrap from one of my kids.

Maddie will also be selling Entertainment books for Quiz Bowl. Since we eat out regularly and go to the movies, I usually buy two of the books.

I feel your pain though. Maddie sold the cookie dough in sixth grade.

That's win-win. School gets the full amount of funds raised and you get a tax deduction, instead of overpriced stuff you don't need. And nobody has to waste time selling it all.

That is exactly what we do.

I really do not like my kids "having" to sell things. Plus, I can not solicit for them at work.

So, with the exception of the entertainment book, we simply write a check and tell them to keep their merchandise.

I just write a check for whatever I think the school's profit will be on a fairly hefty order. I once wrote a check for $10, and my co-worker's daughter was thrilled. She quit selling the cookie dough right there; she'd made her quota.

I'm gonna send a check for $20 to a young friend back east, this one is wrapping paper and ribbons, that type thing. This one says that the more the child sells, the higher her percentage of the profits, but I don't care about that. I figure it's maybe a buck against me having a bunch of paper around I don't want and can't find when I need it because I stuck it in with the Christmas stuff which is now residing in the attic.

This does have the capacity to backfire. I did this for (theoretical) Science PAF's grandson, and his mom misplaced the check. Dear kindly (theoretical) Science PAF covered the loss and cashed my check when her kid finally found it.

Just let me know when you're in town! I haven't been back to the Boatyard Grill all year!

The cost of gas to get down here might eat into that free meal, though...

I was in Ithaca on Sunday! Nephew #2 is now a freshman at Cornell and the grandparents wanted to deliver the dorm refrigerator. I figured I'd be needed to help navigate campus. We got there at 9:50, posed for grandma's obligatory photos in the dorm room, and were back on the road by 10:20. Grandpa thinks a perfect visit anywhere is 30 minutes or less ... Plus, I think we woke my nephew up!

With all due respect to school or other fund raisers, there is no such thing as a "cookie" baked from frozen dough.

Cookies MUST be made from scratch. As should cakes, pies, brownies, and bars.

Cookie dough is the best fundraiser. If you have a deep freeze.

Kids need to sell 8 units to get the 'prize'. I buy eight units. Put in the freezer. Have access to fresh baked cookies, 1 or a dozen at a time. And my time spent on fundraising is about 3 minutes.

I have a toaster oven. I store them in packs of 2 or 3. Bake them when I need to have my milk fix. Yum. As good as home baked! Especially now that Grandma insists on baking "healthy" chocolate chip cookies.

Do you know what company is providing the dough? Is it Blue Ribbon?

I'll cut to the chase. If it's Blue Ribbon, I'll order some from you.
