AOC's Green New Banana
Saw this in one of my farm magazines.
AOC was recommending that people eat less meat to help the environment and that breakfast is probably the easiest meal to skip meat and that she just will have a banana and yogurt.
Um, apparently her environmental accounting system doesn't include the fact that her banana had to travel thousands of miles to get to her; not to mention whatever other environmental impacts that banana plantations have in 3rd world countries.
Fair is Fair-consider the environmental impacts of both alternatives.

Politically a healthy New York apple is a better choice. Maybe she just likes bananas.

Re: AOC's Green New Banana
Mom and I eat half a banana before our 5ks; even if you don't feel like eating, you can slurp down four bites of a small banana. There is no chewing or hardly any tasting. It's Nature's perfect food.
But boy, I love me some apples (not before a race, though; the acid is too harsh), and have gotten addicted to those Honeycrisp jobbers. They used to cost $4/lb but now it's $1.79 or some such. Produce guy said at first there were not as many farmers but now everyone is on board, so the supply is greater. I'm sure they are terrible bad for me with the sugar, but the crispy crunch is more satisfying than any apple variety I've ever had.
AOC cracks me up; more to the point, it cracks me up that people keep asking her anything, and then being surprised at her answers. It's not unlike feeding a troll (I am NOT calling her a troll; I'm saying ... don't feed the trolls, is what I'm saying). If you stop asking her stuff, she won't be on the front page every day, freaking people out. She is one of hundreds of representatives. If her ideas are kooky, they won't pass. End of story.

Re: AOC's Green New Banana
Here's the article about her comments, which were obviously made at least two months ago:
If people see how she handles herself in Congressional hearings, you'll see that she is quite sharp and quick on her feet and that usually every time one of these manufactured controversies plays out, she winds up getting the better of those nitwits who try to bring her down.
https://vegnews.com/2019/2/alexandria-o ... -and-dairy
So, as usually happens with AOC, those who oppose her search through everything she says to find one phrase in an entire address that they can blow out of proportion to try to make a point. So, she's trying to get children to eat more healthy meals and start being environmentally conscious. I notice you didn't mention that in your little diatribe against her.Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez recently visited a school in Queens where a student asked the New York congresswoman her recommendations about how to combat climate change. “Skip disposable razors and switch to safety razors,” Ocasio-Cortez advised. “Give your tummy a break! Skip meat and dairy for a meal—easiest is breakfast; I do banana and peanut butter.” Ocasio-Cortez followed up with several other suggestions, telling students to shop at thrift stores, to use public transit, and to bring reusable bags on grocery shopping trips. Last month, Ocasio-Cortez took to Instagram to reveal that her favorite milk choices are plant-based varieties, stating, “I’m very into oat milk right now which, in my opinion, is the best of all the milks after cashew milk.”
If people see how she handles herself in Congressional hearings, you'll see that she is quite sharp and quick on her feet and that usually every time one of these manufactured controversies plays out, she winds up getting the better of those nitwits who try to bring her down.

If a thing is in a monthly magazine, it stands to reason that it is a tad out of date, newswise. It's not cool to pick on that Spock's story is not from yesterday.
And you know, not that I will be defending Spock most days, but I would hardly refer to his opening post as a diatribe. That implies far more heft than this post had.
I think if some of y'all on the extremes would stop responding to each other, a ton of this shit would go away, and that would be a good thing. We could talk about anything else, like does anyone ever try a day without social media, or what does anyone recommend to do on an October trip to Nashville?
You know. Normal people shit. Like that.

Every clip I've seen of her during Congressional hearings looks like she's asking scripted questions. Any follow-up is met with wide-eyed stares from her. Can you provide a clip showing her being "quite sharp and quick on her feet?" Can you provide a clip of her "getting the better" of anyone?silverscreenselect wrote:If people see how she handles herself in Congressional hearings, you'll see that she is quite sharp and quick on her feet and that usually every time one of these manufactured controversies plays out, she winds up getting the better of those nitwits who try to bring her down.

And who do you think scripts her questions? She prepares for those hearings to make the points she wants to make, unlike a lot of others who just seem to muddle around until their time is up.Estonut wrote: Every clip I've seen of her during Congressional hearings looks like she's asking scripted questions.

One of my favorite trips was to Nashvile (and surrounding environs) one gorgeous October! Get thee to Sevierville and go ZORBING!!! So. Much. Fun!!! The trees, the colors, Grand Ol' Opry, of course, and there was an absolutely fabulous crafts fair in Asheville (just up the mountain from Sevierville. Plus, if it's your jam, Dollywood is in Sevierville, as well.

About a million years ago (OK, a couple decades), I would get horrific leg and foot cramps several times a week until I started eating half a banana every day. I bet it helps Skoop and Skoop's mom the same way.Ritterskoop wrote:Mom and I eat half a banana before our 5ks; even if you don't feel like eating, you can slurp down four bites of a small banana. As for Honeycrisps -- now there is nature's perfect food. I discovered them around 2005 or so on the recommendation of a co-worker. I googled them and discovered they were first developed in the early 1960s and was furious -- how dare they keep this delicious secret from me?
These days, with the demise of Winesaps, Jonathans, and McIntoshes (OK, McIntoshes will still show up in the fall) from grocery stores, Honeycrisps plus Granny Smiths and Galas for SteelersFan are the only apples that make it from store to CasaSprots. We have a Baldwin tree in the back yard, but we rarely get apples. Those warm early spring days come along and fool the tree into producing blossoms, then three week later, zap! A hard frost, and all the applies (and apricots) are gone.
Everybody in the county did get apples last year. Here's hoping for a repeat -- and for apricots too!

I'd also guess that most lawyers in your experience don't have a right-wing noise machine hovering over every word they say looking for some little slip-up they can turn into one of their manufactured rants about how naive or wacky they are.
