A trivia buff and "the smartest man in the world," but he won't take a risk with the Double Dip?

Grafton's protagonist is Kinsey Millhone. Janet Evanovich writes the Stephanie Plum books. --Bob

15K: OK, the author's been doing televised promos for his latest Cross book. (Don't know if I'd have seen them before the show taped, but I'm "playing" now.) So I know the author is a "he". I'm pretty sure its Patterson, but pretty is not enough. 50/50 would cement it, but so might ATA here. ATA
25K: No idea. PAF. Since I'd still have that option at this time of year.

Would you believe that I just saw a commercial for "I, Alex Cross"?
James Patterson, where the hell were you two days ago when I needed you?!
