ABC Unveils Fall Schedule

#1 Post by silverscreenselect » Tue May 17, 2016 12:18 pm

Of note here is the fact that Scandal won't premiere until the winter and it will be a shorter season. All of ABC's Thursday shows took a ratings hit when they had a three month winter break, so they're trying to protect their top-rated Thursday show. See my earlier posts for more details on new shows.

Monday (all times Eastern)

8:00 Dancing with the Stars
10:00 Conviction (the Hayley Atwell show about an agency trying to reverse wrongful convictions)

Tuesday

8:00 The Middle
8:30 American Housewife (formerly The Second Fattest Housewife in Westport)
9:00 Fresh Off the Boat
9:30 The Real O'Neills
10:00 Marvel's Agents of Shield

Wednesday

8:00 The Goldbergs
8:30 Speechless (Minnie Driver as a mother of three, one-of-them a special needs child who doesn't speak)
9:00 Modern Family
9:30 Blackish
10:00 Designated Survivor (Kiefer Sutherland as a lower tier Cabinet official who becomes President after a terrorist attack)

Thursday

8:00 Grey's Anatomy
9:-00 Notorious (Piper Perabo and Daniel Sunjata as new producer and criminal defense attorney) / Scandal (after New Year's)
10:00 How to Get Away with Murder / The Catch (after New Year's)

Friday

8:00 Last Man Standing
8:30 Dr. Ken
9:00 Shark Tank
10:00 20/20

Sunday

7:00 America's Funniest Home Videos
8:00 Once Upon a Time
9:00 Secrets and Lives (Juliette Lewis and Ryan Philippe show about a man accused of murdering a neighbor; it premiered in 2014 and has been held over until this fall)
10:00 Quantico

Other new shows coming in 2017 not previously discussed:

Imaginary Mary: A live action/CGI mix with Jenna Elfman whose imaginary childhood friend, who looks like a cross between R2D2 and the Pillsbury Doughboy, shows up and starts talking to her.

Time After Time: TV version of the Malcolm McDowell/David Warner movie about HG Wells and Jack the Ripper traveling to the present day in Wells' time machine. It will take the place of Secrets & Lies, which is only a 10-episode run, after the first of the year.

Hmmm.

He's not going to be able to play Jack Bauer in a situation like that--all the Jack Bauers of the world would be dedicated to keeping him safe. And after such a momentous attack (at a minimum, I imagine this would involve an attack on the Capitol Building during a State of the Union address) I can't see this being a "West Wing"-type show; what was happening in the wider world would be more important than what was happening in Kiefer's secret bunker.

Not true. The first season ran from March to May last year (2015). The Australian version upon which is based aired there in 2014.

Further, Juliette Lewis reprises her role as the detective, but Ryan Philippe is not involved in Season 2. It's a different story.
A child of five would understand this. Send someone to fetch a child of five.

You're right, I got my dates wrong. I watched the original series and did not read any detailed updates about the second season. The first season involved a season-long murder case in which Ryan Philippe was the prime suspect. The killer's identity was revealed in the last episode, but the finale was open-ended, so I assumed that it would follow up on the same set of characters. Apparently it will follow another similar case in which a man (Michael Ealy) becomes the prime suspect in his wife's death. It's a 10-episode limited series, so presumably the mystery will be solved at the end of the season.
