Free Slurpee Day

#1 Post by TheConfessor » Fri Jul 11, 2014 12:48 pm

Happy 7-11. I miss PSM's annual accounts of her free Slurpee expeditions with her family. I hope they have continued the tradition. I think I'll cut my grass first, then go enjoy a free Slurpee. You should too!

Are there Seven-11s in the U.K.? That's the only way she can continue the tradition this year.

Looks like they have limited the free Slurpees to an 8 hour window, between 11 a.m. and 7 p.m. I think that's new.

But if you download their app, you can get more free junk food each day for the next week.

Apparently there used to be 7-Elevens in the UK, but they went out of business in the 80s or 90s, but they're coming back.

Today the Suchards are visiting the ghost of my 19th great grandfather, Henry de Percy, at Alnwick Castle.

Anyway, 7-Eleven Day in the UK would be November 7th, right?

That brings up something I always wondered.... why are dates often recorded as ddmmyy outside of the US? That makes absolutely no sense to me. Do non-Americans actually say "Today is the 11th of July" in regular conversation and not "Today is July 11th?" Or am I just living under my usual rock again as someone who never even leaves the Midwest....?

Yep, you're living under your rock again. They often say just "11 July" (in their native language of course).

If you're tying to put events in chronological order, it would more sense to list them in the format yyyymmdd, since the most significant digits come first.
